Have you done longer distances than that before? When I first ran 10k I was virtually dying but recently when I've tried further ones I could carry on for longer if time allowed.

Pain now a distant memory but I'm going to resist running still this week. I'm this month's equivalent of Man Utd

Nope. To be honest, I was in a funny mood and didn't want to listen to music so I decided I didn't need my phone. I picked a route which I thought would be around 10km but when I measured on the iPad later is came in at 12km - my legs were shattered the last couple of ks.

That'll have been the longest run I've done in over 10 years.

It's a great feeling of achievement, if only of didn't hurt so much

A disappointing 8.8k. Felt more out of breath than leggy. A gps/music sync malfunction didn't help and had me ranting at my phone on the main street. Not a very Zen ad for exercise.

Welcome aboard destinydude! Are you using any sort of app or c25k thingy?

                ^it does get addictive^

I've found that I get twitchy if I miss a day so I do what I can to get going even if it is later on in the day than I'd normally go. I think it's partly "fear" for me as I've got a target in my head of how I want to look when I'm on my honeymoon (booked it today so I know the dates and therefore how many training sessions I have left to get there)

If I don't get the physique I want by then I'll see that as a failure on my part. I know that I'll still have a decent shape but I still have to incorporate a "cut" into my workouts to get my body fat down to 10% -ish so if I miss a workout then it's extra I'll need to do next time to "catch up" on what I missed out on.
                Cheers

decent read, especially further down the page

Weight training involves two movements of a weight, (a) the concentric (lifting) and (b) eccentric (lowering). So when we lift the weight, we shorten the muscle and when we lower the weight we lengthen the muscle, both portions of lifting, concentric and eccentric movement are equally important. You have to concentrate on both phases of the movement, lifting and lowering, if you just lower the weight by gravity your wasting this part of the exercise.
                  I wasted 2-3 weeks before I realised this ^^^

Pushed the deads a bit more today. Less silly rep-wise than the old days, but pushing the boundaries a little again to test the spine.

                    Warm-up:
                    8x60K
                    1x140

                    Working sets:
                    5x165
                    5x175
                    5x177.5
                    5x177.5
                    2x190

                    Cool down:
                    10x140.

Was ok, will stretch my back & legs whilst watching Citeh Barca cos had to rush back to work once I'd done everything else too (pull-ups etc).
                    3rd place. Worst champions ever.

Still tight but a nice 7 mile punt. Sports massage last night may have fixed the demon thigh. 7.23/ mile pace. Lovely stuff!
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

10.5km with my Tuesday running club - Fartlek Fliers.

So much easier for me to go out running if with a group.
