I'm determined for that to be the case, for once in my ****ing life.

I enjoyed the buzz after and want more.

My lifestyle is painfully sedentary......sit on my arse all day, and with the World Cup I am spreadeagled on the sofa from 4.30pm til ****in 1am

      "Spreadeagled"

I know what you mean though. I've taken a few pounds over the last couple of years myself and with my current lifestyle (off to work at 7 in the morning and back at 7 in the evening) I can't see that trend stopping.

You've got the advantage of working from home, so do it.

You'll feel better after a week. How many times a week are you planning to run? Maybe sticking to 3/4 times will not make it that hard in the beginning.

            Yeah 4-5 runs a week I think.

why dont you just join a 5 a side team, way better than running

Also considering that. Would run further, more intensity etc. Haven't played regularly for over 10 years and would like to again before it's too late.

                      Gonna start playing badminton too.

Football/Sport you enjoy the game and the fitness is just a happy by-product. Running is just dull probably not the best thread to post that.

Yeah, 5 a side is more enjoyable but you might pick up the odd injury. And there would be more work involved in warming up/down etc ...

See. I totally disagree. Unlike most sports it's totally inclusive. You don't need to wait until you've enough for a match or to play against. It's pretty cheap to start as all you need is a pair of trainers. It docent have to involve a massive gym membership or unfun machines and you don't really have to have a level of fitness.

Not to mention that you get to see some seriously beautiful routes. Whether Fell through the lakes, cross country in national heritage sites or coastal runs. All class. There is definitely a huge kick in competition. Racing is brill.

So it's as challenging as you want to make it. Picking a route and running it endlessly is, no doubt, a bit **** but to lump all of running with a lack of originality is a nonsense. Also found running to be far more social than any other sport I've done. It's great crack
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

He probably referred to the "loneliness of the long distance runner" syndrome.

Everyone raves about Squash and how punishingly physical it is. Thing is that unless you're good at it there's a lot of flapping around and getting in each other's way.

Now Badminton is a different story You're on your own on your side of the net and can throw yourself around as much as you want, for beginners it's much more physical than Squash IMO . I love playing and rarely get injured doing it. Get yourself some decent court shoes, I like Yonex as they last for ever.
