Basically, you're almost exactly like me. Until a few years ago I could drink, other stuff, eat crap and do no exercise but it didn't matter because I've never really needed to. I'm obviously way sexier than you but still, haven't ever had to really think about weight etc

      But yeah, hit 30, and

I also hate the gym, forced myself over the last year or so but still, nowhere near what I could be doing

      My suggestion:

Cut out as much sugar as you possibly can, including what's in beer and bread

Buy some dumbbells (these will do) and 4 days a week do a 20 minute home workout with a 5 minute warm-up to begin with

I've got 2 of those (similar) sets of DBs as I can lift much more with biceps than (for example) bench press. So it gets boring if you have to keep ****ing around with what weights on what bar etc

Pull up bars are brilliant, but you might not be able to do even one at first, so it's a bit off putting. You can get stronger with weights and pushups etc first, then buy the pull up bar next week or something

In terms if adding bulk, I'd tend to favour dummies over kettle bells, the latter if which train dynamic strength more primarily than adding a bit of bulk. Get adjustable dumbells so you can change the weight. There's plenty of compound exercises you can do at home- like bicep curl to overhead press. Remember though, 2/3 of your muscle mass in your upper arms is triceps so you need to work them. Plenty of stuff you can do with dummies for them too- just google tricep dumbell excercises & find the ones you least hate the look of & have a go.

You can do squats for your legs with the dummies in your hands. If you find that your grip is going before your legs do, grab some lifting straps. Squatting flushes your system with growth hormone so will help your upper bossy development.

Can understand you not wanting to join a gym, a lot of dicks there. But we ain't all that way- if someone squats to below parallel chances are they're fairly sound haha. Seriously though, I know loads of decent blokes through lifting, they're just less obvious cos they ain't acting like cocks!
Cheers, this is all great advice. I am absolutely clueless when it comes to this stuff.

No updates Assman ...it was only yesterday. If the rain stops I might pop to my local Sports Direct for some cheap dumbells .....otherwise I'm gonna start today, at home on my own ....with some press ups n ****. Gonna be a farce

See if I can manage 10.

Before you start buying **** that may be a waste of money and clog up your house, why don’t you try and source a dodgy copy online of one of the home fitness programmes?

Shaun T (always on Sky in the early hours) has quite a few, some for only 20 mins a day, most don’t require equipment, although they might be a bit hard going. At the very least, it would give you an idea of different exercises, proper form and give you an indication before you spend money if you could really be arsed seeing this through. Not that I doubt you will, but I think most of us go through these phases and end up with all sorts of weights and benches in our houses that get used about once a year (I dusted the cob webs off mine last week ).

Alternatively, there are also plenty of free apps to download to give you a guide.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Ha - yep that is a mild concern. I can be a bit faddy and then forget all about it. But I 100% want (need) to put some bulk on, so I'll look into this home fitness programme stuff as well.

Do this, should take no more than 15 minutes and you will hopefully be ****ed after it

                  Warm up -
2 minutes of jogging on the spot, alternating between normal and high legs every 10 secs or so
                  2 minutes of star jumps

                  Actual workout:

                  10x Push Up
                  20x Prisoner Squats
                  20x Mountain Climb
                  10x Burpees
                  10x Tricep Dips

Do this once without any rests between each exercise, rest for 60 seconds, then do it again
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

This is absolutely awesome - thanks man

One other thing. I have a ****in hernia. Had it since August. Had a consultation in October and I'm still waiting for the ****ing op. It's only a minor one...a supraumbilical hernia. Can I still "work out" with a hernia or is it a bad idea?

Also, when is the best time to do this stuff? After eating? If so, how long?

Ooh, that I'm not sure about mate

Umbilical being stomach area? None of those exercises are particularly taxing on your abdominals, so it SHOULDN'T be too much of an issue, but I wouldn't like to say go ahead and then make it worse! I thought hernias were generally alright providing you don't strain your muscles too much? I'm not sure in all honesty

Yeah man it's just above my belly button. It's minor but needs an op. I need to avoid serious strain on that area. **** it I'm going for it, sick of waiting for this op.
