So I guess it added drama. People prefer drama in sport to value for money dont they?
That's a sill argument. You could quite easy say that we've missed out on exciting performances in other games because of lost overs.

As Bumble says... GET ON WITH THE GAME!!!!

I agree, pitches need to be much more of a balance between bat and ball. However, we do see a lot of results over here and in test cricket in general. Look back at the last few series. Not many draws home and away.

Results over here usually a home win cos we're used to flat tracks and are pretty adept at getting something out of slow pitches. It's so hugely weighted in favour of the batting team....too many soporific days' cricket. I feel sorry for anyone who paid for any of the first four days. Day 5ers got lucky.......a terrific days play in the end.

Its because they decided to use Surrey soil from the oval to lay most of the pitches in the country. That's why there is now little variation.

My debut day at the cricket was a cracker (if memory serves you were at the same game) v WIndies at Old Trafford, 13 wickets, a 50 and KP getting out - helmet struck wicket... Amazing.

              Since then, not so good.

Last time out was against SA at the Oval. 1 wicket (Smith) but basically watching Amla, Smith and Kallis bat and bat and bat and bat and bat and bat and bat and bat. I still got wasted, but it helps with a few wickets to cheer.

i've been to watch england about 10 times - once a year -

only been to one test match and it was dull as **** - it was a second day, in nottingham i think, cook and strauss were in, and they pretty much left every ball for about 5 hours - i think the whole day we saw 40 runs and one wicket.

as an 'event' to go to i'm a ODI man - T20 feels rushed when you are there, but a good one dayer is a full day session of drinking, with runs/wickets and a winner.

Other than the bowler, who enjoys a 'Maiden Over'?

what was funny is - about 14 of us went - in that group

                    3 or 4 like/understand cricket
5 or 6 had come to ODI/T20 with us and enjoyed it so where for it

and the rest had come along because they'd been told what a great day out it was etc etc - they were ****ing bored to tears

in the end we just completely ****ing smashed until we eventually got thrown out

For me you cannot beat an engrossing days play at a Test match. I was at day 4 of the Trent Bridge Ashes Test last summer and it was fantastic - absorbing, lots of wickets and runs. Got completely off my head as well

it's luck though isn't it - picking a 'good' day to go

don't get me wrong, i'm happy watching it at home. - I remember looking at tickets for 4th day one year, and luckily didn't bother as it was over on day 3 haha.

Cook has gone 22 innings without a hundred.

When it is good it is great.

I have been absolutely mangled at Old Trafford and the Oval twice and it was excellent. There is only one way to 'manage' a days drinking and that is to supplement by ingesting narcotics. The toilets at both do make such activities... challenging.

Did the same at an ODI in Durham last year

at 'half time' (it is half time isn't it in a ODI ) we went for a walk around the ground and decided to give this 'catch as many balls being blown around' a go (think final game in the crystal maze)

i completely freaked out in there - managed to catch about 6 balls in the minute.

the best was about 140 -

i was second worst all day, only just beat an 8 year old girl who caught 4 hahaha

the blowing machine stopped, and i came out of this huge bouncy castle type bubble thing a right state - the 'normal' people around us were just silent/stunned - my mates were rolling around dying with laughter - i was white as sheet, completely traumatised by the experience - it was horrendous.

Haha. Yes. I managed several successful trips to the toilets at both Trent Bridge and OT last summer but it wasn't easy.
