    England's World Cup in numbers

12.2 - The overs it took for New Zealand to beat England's total of 123 in their second group game.

49 - The amount of runs Steven Finn went for in two overs against New Zealand.

6.00 - The combined economy-rate of England's bowlers during the tournament

9.00 - The batting average of Gary Ballance, who scored just 36 runs in four innings.

16 - The number of sixes hit by England in their five fixtures. Only Scotland have managed less.

16 - The number of sixes hit by West Indies' Chris Gayle in his 215 against Zimbabwe.

654 - total of runs scored by Australia and Sri Lanka against England

0 - The number of centuries scored by a Bangladesh batsman in a World Cup before Mahmudullah's 103 against England.

233 at 58.25 - Ireland's Ed Joyce has scored more runs in the tournament at a higher average than any England player, in one less match. Joyce used to play for England, but was axed after the 2007 World Cup.
And this quote from Moores... He doesn't get it. His assessment that the loss of the obstinate batting of Trott was an issue says he doesn't get it either.

“We thought 275 was chaseable,” he said. “We shall have to look at the data.”
I feel a bit sorry for the likes of Ballance, and Morgan who were totally thrown under the bus by the selectors in the run in to the WC after 6 months of prep. Ballance is not what is required at 3, and Morgan was out of form and given the captaincy so late on, only once the selectors acted on what everyone already knew, namely that Cook is not your man to lead a one day team. The World Cup has just ensured that the Gulf in class became a Chasm. Watching Ian Bell bat is a good indicator of how far of England are, he doesn't do much wrong, but he just doesn't score quickly enough.

England have a D/L score of 101 to chase in 25 overs.

Surely they will alter the batting line up? Should be an easy total, but no point sending Bell out first.

Feel for you guys. We've been in that position in 2007 when we were knocked out very cheaply by Bangladesh. Hurts like a bitch, doesn't it?

Though I have been to the odd England Test Match, I am Scottish, and as such our expectations are pretty low.

But having followed this England team, the fall from grace has been spectacular.

West Indies currently tearing through the UAE top and middle order.

Ireland need to beak Pakistan or hope for a washout or they will go out on NRR.

Not really, I was delighted we got knocked out. The only way we can get rid of Downton and Moores is by losing games of cricket.

A tour to the Caribbean might prolong the agony.

Worst possible place to be going. Don't think even England under Moores could make a horlicks of that. Slim chance that a heavy defeat to NZ (entirely possible) would force a last minute change before the Ashes, but I'm not hopeful.

England bowling coach David Saker secures Melbourne Renegades role
                            • Australian has spent five years in England job
                            • Played key role in Ashes victories and T20 triumph

The England bowling coach David Saker has been appointed head coach of Melbourne Renegades.

Saker has spent the past five years with the England cricket team and played a key role in the Ashes victories in 2009 and 2010-11. He was also part of England’s victory at the World T20 tournament in 2010.

He is contracted until the end of the Ashes series in England later this year and while he is prepared to fulfil that deal he would prefer to immediately return to Australia with his family.

The 48 year-old, who played 72 first-class matches for Victoria and Tasmania and is a former assistant coach at the Bushrangers, said he was looking forward to taking on the role for the next two years. “I’m very excited to join the club and come back to Melbourne – which is home – and work with everyone involved. The Big Bash League is being talked about worldwide in cricket circles and it’s great to be back working in the T20 format,” Saker told the Renegades website.

Melbourne’s chief executive, Stuart Coventry, said: “It’s been a comprehensive and thorough selection process and one that we were determined to get right and David is the right person to lead the club over the next two years and drive us into winning positions. David has been involved in the high-performance environment at the international level and had great success with England across all formats over the last five years. We’ll now give him time to review our list closely and work out how he wants to mould things in the months ahead.”

The club said Saker was expected to arrive in Melbourne upon finalisation of his England coaching duties.
