My eldest daughter Eleanor is playing her first competitive inter-club match tomorrow U-10's mixed (so she could be playing v a lad)

A little nervous for her and if she knew she would not be able to sleep tonight (we wont tell her till tomorrow)

Magic! Good luck to her, and you as the proud parent. Hope she wins who ever she is playing

I massively regret not continuing Tennis lessons as a kid, so win or lose I hope she goes on to greater things.

        Thanks!!

All you can ask is she tries her best, if she concentrates and doesnt let nerves or distractions get the better of her then she will give a decent account of herself

Shes been in and around the squad sessions for a couple of years and she has been having 1 to 1 lessons for 8 months. Its massively improved her shes not yet 10 and she holds her own against lads her age and slightly older than her (in the weekly squad sessions)

Shes a worrier though, which is why we arent telling her till tomorrow

It will be torture for me tomorrow as you are not allowed to say anything or even offer advice from the sideline.

Jeez, I'm getting nervous now as well

I can't imagine how proud/nervous I will be should my 2 go on to do anything in sport. She'll be great by the sounds of it, nerves mean you care!

Its great watching them do well, she won gold last year in the Liverpool Catholic schools long jump, she got a bronze in the triple jump (had never even tried that before the day of the event) and she regularly picks up running medals in school sports days etc..

Tennis is her first love though

Shes a bit uncertain of her ability though and short of confidence (in everything she does)

My youngest is completely the opposite, shes 7 and has convinced herself that shes already better than most people at the club and only the other week asked when is she going to be playing Andy Murray!!!

my 2 (5 & 3) have shown zero inclination or aptitude towards sport (some towards stand up comedy). If they do, managing that will be interesting. I was shy as a kid and it definitely held me back in sport. By the time I had confidence I was to old to do anything about it.

                I wouldnt worry too much

My eldest has always looked sporty, shes tall, skinny, athletic. However shes not mentally strong enough and lacks focus at times

The youngest is the opposition, shes small, doesnt look the part physically but has enormous self confidence and belief and is OCD. So you teach her something and she spends hours practicing until she can do it

Wow Lecter, I thought you were about 60. I was a bit gobsmacked to read you have a 10 year old!

Well my daughter won her individual match 5-3, 4-2 (they only play short sets) against a lad her age. Lost her doubles match 7-5 after having matchpoint (they only play 1 set doubles)

They won the entire match as the other team member a boy won his individual match

Debuts for both of them on a surface they have never played on (artificial clay). Great stuff by both of them, proud parents all round

I'd love for my daughter to get into something like tennis, but she won't ever be able to play sport seriously because of her heart. Mind you, she lacks any sort of natural athleticism and coordination so I doubt professional sport was ever going to be for her anyway. She'll just have to join a band or be a superstar dj or something instead. Ha!

There are hardly any girls playing tennis these days

Really is a sorry state of affairs, the club my daughter plays for has U10's mixed (she can play in this), then boys U12's & U14's and U16's

They have not entered any U12's & U14's girls teams but they have entered an U16 girls team and the girls they have playing U16 have only just turned 14

They need at least 2 girls for each age group and that would be without any subs etc..

Briton Andy Murray has won his first clay-court title with a 7-6 (7-4) 5-7 7-6 (7-4) victory over German Philipp Kohlschreiber in the Munich Open final.

My daughter Eleanor won her second mixed U10's match on Sunday 4-2 & 5-4 (tie break last set)

She also won her doubles match 6-4. Clean sweep this week her and her partner (a different lad this week) won the match 3-0

Got a couple of nice compliments paid by the opposition coach about both of our players, he said he wasnt too disappointed considering his players came up against very experienced opposition. His face dropped a touch when we told him it was both of our players 2nd competitive games

Anyway a couple of weeks off now for Eleanor as squad rotation kicks in
