Who's next? Stoneman is obviously close to a call up.

The Durham left hander? He can't be especially young any more.

I'm a bit worried about Jennings as well as Ballance to be honest, he also seems to have technical deficiencies which isn't what you want in an opener. I know there have been those who have succeeded in spite of this (Trescothic for one) but I'm old fashioned and prefer my openers to be Boycottesque in their technique.

I know young Hameed can't buy a run at the moment but I think that's because he's tried to become expansive. I'd have kept him involved and let him get some tests under his belt before the winter in Australia.

Dreadful day today. Edging towards a recovery, at least

I expected England to win but that batting effort was awful. Aside from the last innings the notable difference was the catching, which needs to be corrected. Big changes for the 2nd test which should help the balance of the team. It's actually bull**** that Rabada is going to be out for this demerit points debacle. Brett Lee would have been out of every 3rd game if it was used then.

This is the team which they should go for in the next test

            Kuhn
            Elgar
            Amla
            du Plessis
            de Kock
            Bavuma
            Morris
            Philander
            Maharaj
            Olivier
            Morkel

Duminy has been on borrowed time for a while and has zero confidence. He needs a few months to prove he can score consistently domestically. Another seamer would make a huge difference so Morris would add something. Faf and Olivier are like for like for de Bruyn and Rabada.

Normally you guys do very well with African recruitment but Ballance and Jennings are definitely not up to scratch.

Ah yeah, 27 is what he does when it's all going well first innings.

Need a score from him? Then it's trapped LB for 4
