I think there's only one (or two) vague doglegs on the course. No course would ever be designed like that now - all dead straight, vast wide fairways. Don't get me wrong the place is magical but I think the game has sort of overtaken it now.

Yeah, as mentioned, I’ve never been a fan of links golf, even when it is bad weather which is more of a leveller, it again feels completely arbitrary. And as you are saying wasn’t designed for these guys to be driving 400 plus yards.

I don’t think they are due back for & years, but I suspect it will always be on the list of Open courses for the history.

Final 2 were too focused on their group imo, Cam putting 4 birdies in 4 holes on the turn, Rory had no time to step it up a gear.

If they played it again next weekend you'd fancy Smith again. Worthy winner
