I do at times struggle to understand the stands people make within the sport. A daughter of someone I know plays in the Pro-Am tournaments and makes a good living from it.
She is very anti LIV and anti Saudi involvement, has played alongside McIlroy, has played with McIlroy and other such names when on their own time in Adare, the US and in Dubai.
Yet has also gone and played in Middle Eastern backed tournaments in Dubai and similar locations.

it seems Saudi are looking to rival Dubai as a golf destination, they have loads of space to build interesting courses rather than the flat of Dubai, big hotels. Lots of money in golf tourism as one strand to this.
I don't see life in them building sporting golf teams to be sold, just not comparable to football or any team sport imo.
The PGA often bully the European/Asia tour and are no angels and this has given a kick up the arse. Shame its taken the Saudis and not the wave of the Tiger era to do it.
I don't see how Saudis can make a return on it unless they screw over future players when they have a total monopoly on the sport, there is no alternative/player rights.
The fact 3 people from the PGA have decided on it and there is no member/wider vote is wild. Jay Monahan should be sacked but no doubt he's making some serious cash instead.

It's like all the other forms of sports and cultural washing though. The return is not on the investment itself is in initially, but rather in the longer term through the cleaning or normalising of the image of a regime/culture.
Much easier to move onto other things once you have been accepted in Western culture through involvement in the sporting and entertainment sectors.
Oil has been king for a long long time. If the world moves away from that, then oil countries need to have their changes in place well in advance if they want to, sorry if their regime leaders want to keep the same (or greater) level of wealth and influence.I don't hate people. Why on earth stop playing? All that does is put financial pressure on the club you used to play at, a club that has had nothing at all to do with what's happening at the elite level. It's like not going to watch one of your kids play youth football because Man City are cheating the league. Totally over the top reaction
