Think it is a bit of a loss for both him and the AFL that he did not go there as he is an excellent young player. Big plus for Mayo of course that he stayed.

He is still a smashing player though and at 22 now he is only going to get better along with that bit bigger and stronger.

I have now gone from the he should succeed in the ALF if he went there, to he would succeed.

He is still everything I described him as being, but I think he has shown himself to be a bit of a mentality monster at times and seems to have gone up a level in terms of overall consistency.

There was a rumour here over the summer that Collingwood were looking at him so if that happens it should realy endear him to you

Amy idea what position he was being looked at for within the Geelong team?

Guess half pocket or more likely in a half-back flank role? He seems tailor made for the latter role imo but could see him excelling at half pocket too.
i thought we had, but couldn't see it anywhere

he'd have been pegged for a wing/half back flanker....basically get the ball and run.

id dare say Geelong will be quite annoyed if he changes his mind and suddenly plays for Collingwood. He signed a 2 yr contract with us

        Collingwood spy.

        Magpies abound

For a moment I thought it was a Limerick flag until I notice the order of the colours and the crest. (Limerick is Green and White, Port Laois are White and Green)

Yeah that is the role I thought he might have been pegged for.

He is excellent at bringing the ball out of defence for Mayo and for play making from the back.

No real disrespect meant towards Mayo if there are any Yew county heads on here, but I would have liked to have seen him in the Geelong starting team with what I regard as better players (for the most part) around him.

Mullins often looks great in a good team, I think he would look amazing in a better team. He would have had a field day setting up attacks and also breaking forward in last season's Geelong team imo.

Still, at only 22, it may well happen yet for him.

Yeah hopefully if he changes his mind and wants to give AFL a crack then we're the ones that get him. Seeing as we had an agreement previously and have 2 other Irish lads (and potentially Connor McKenna coming to give AFL another try after he got homesick during Covid)

Think if Mayo had managed to stop their decades long cocking up in All Ireland finals, then he would be in Oz now. They have been in the final 11 times since 1951 (when they last won it), 6 times in the past 10 years, and lost every final.

Load of semi finals along the way as well.

An All Ireland Winners medal in his pocket and he would have left imo.

Sounds like Geelong the last 11 years.

Other than the fact you actually won in 2022 and a few other times in the 2000s

Mayo are on a 71 year streak that most likely will become a 72 year one next year. Massive blank streak for what would be regarded as one of the better footballing counties.

Dublin and Kerry generally being the top guns when it comes to football in Ireland but Mayo would be up there albeit as the bridesmaid.

Hurling would see Limerick as being the current top dogs and have been for a number of years now.

To be part of a Mayo team that breaks the streak would be a huge thing for a Mayo lad. Though I think he could leave today for Oz, come back in 6 or 7 years and still be part of a Mayo team looking to break what is then a longer streak.

Sorry Mayo heads, I just do not see a scenario in the next decade where both Dublin and Kerry fall away at the same time and that there is no strong Nordie team about to plug the gap. Might as well just reverse your flags and pretend to follow Limerick in the Hurling.

We may yet get to see Mullin play for Geelong. Just a bit later then expected.

My opinion on Mullin's ability and potential is still the same as earlier in the thread. His hammy issues this year are a bit of a worry, but the flip side is that he is so good that he gets played even when at 75%.

If he went to Geelong, he would be able to get proper rest time if he was carrying something and the warmer climate might help him out a bit as well.

I do hope he makes the move though and gets back to 100% as am really curious what he would be like in the AFL once he had fully settled into both Aussue rules and living in Oz.

                        Confirmed.

                        Good lad Oisin!

Look forward to seeing what he can do. Wouldn't expect him to make the firsts in his debut year, we have a very strong side. But a bit of dash off the halfback line will be great.

I think he will start making himself a semi regular fairly quickly and be in the side more than he is out of it half way or so through his first season but by his second season he will make himself a starter.

No way a confident lad like him is going to make up the numbers. He will have it in his head that he is going there to work his way to becoming a starter.

I reckon in a years time we will be seeing why he was sought after.

                          Massive loss for Mayo though.

Any news on wee Oisin in big bad Oz? Not been keeping track of him but stand by my comments from last year that he is making the jump to the AFL confident of being able to make the grade quickly.

Sorry Jaco, hadn't seen this post before i came in here now.

Oisin's making his debut this weekend! A lot sooner than many anticipated, but we have a heap of injuries at the moment and the seasons on the brink, so makes sense they're getting games into the young lads.

Am really curious how he will do.

Just a pity that his debut is not going to be in a team that is settled and flying, but a first team chance is a first team chance.

Said it already in this thread but think his second season/year in Oz is when he will start to make his mark as long as he settles off the pitch (new country and all that stuff).

He is in a good part of Oz for a young lad from the west of Ireland to settle in imo. Geelong and nearby Melbourne are better starting points than somewhere like Sydney in my eyes. Found the people in that part of Oz to be much closer to those in the West and South of Ireland than over in Sydney. Sydney I found was a little closer to Dublin in personality (bigger city, faster pace and so on. I know Melbourne is big too but it does not feel as fast paced a city as Sydney).

Hope he plays a blinder on Saturday as he is a likeable lad, but also one that is really confident on the pitch. Think if he takes the level he was at for Mayo and is able to convert that to the AFL he will be a real star in a few years
