Positive side of the tournament is plenty of really talented young players got the experience and there is a good group coming through so good times ahead I feel. I’d like to see a more positive manager come in and build the squad around the younger players but I’m excited about what’s happening and the young players the country is starting to produce regularly now. They are getting that right. Herrington and Irankunda are two players that will be the future of the team. Herrington was excellent today and taking the responsibility to step up for a penalty at 18 as a CB shows his mentality.
Disappointing performance playing a team they should have been more positive against. I understand you need to play a certain way due to the quality of the opposition sometimes but Popovic has always been a very negative manager. Not enough was done with the ball today and Egyptian were they to be got at with a bit more forward thinking with the ball. A wasted opportunity to win a knock out game.
I don’t understand taking the goalkeeper off who’s had a great tournament and made some big saves in the game when he’s in the grove for a keeper who hasn’t played a minute in the tournament and expecting him to just come on for penalties. Does Ryan have some amazing record in penalties? And I will not criticise the players who took the penalties as they stood up but why would an 18 year old CB be taking your 4th penalty. Did the senior players not take responsibility or did Popavic pick him. Good on him for taking it but I’d like to know where the more experienced players were. 2 CB’s taking penalties in the first 4 isn’t something you see very often.
