Aussie Sports Thread - NRL, AFL or A League

There seems to be enough of us Aussies to have a thread specifically for NRL, the AFL or even the A Leagues & any other aussie codes you want to discuss.

So first question I’ve got is should the NRL be playing competition matches in the US each year? Personally I think not as I don’t see it competing with the NFL & the extra traveling is a drain on players.

2nd question is the rumour that Dusty Martin is coming out of retirement to play for the Suns true?
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Don't think he can now that the drafts have been done. Would set a precedent of a player "retiring" to then get to the club that they want to play for.

"looking through your posts since 2007 and what you have consistently written about my football team I have come to the conclusion that if you had 1 more brain cell you would be a plant .. your father was a hamster and your mother smells of elder berries, I fart in your general direction ..." There was a bit of talk going on up here on the GC before I went on holidays so wasn’t sure if there was any substance to it

I like the idea of the Vegas round - I'd be up for it if the Tigers ever got in - I know - I'm dreaming

Really but yeah you are dreaming My nephew has been a corporate box owner at the Sharks for years & he’s heading over for their match next year.

Don’t like V'landys and the way he runs things. I really don’t understand the Vegas games. They’ll never get enough attention in America with their own sports being so big.

Would the Suns want him? He seems like he’s done and wouldn’t offer much on field anyway. It would be a let down if you’re a fan and he signs but never plays. Didn’t Mal Michael do the same thing. Retire at Brisbane and then turn up for Essendon?

That’s how I see it too. The only ppl who benefit are in America.

Not sure if Hardwick would want him but he’d know the guys fitness & character better than anyone else and yeah I’ve not no issues for a player at the end of their career chasing where they want to play tbh.

And the Big Bash kicks off on December 15 from memory. Hopefully Brisbane Heat bring a game or two down to the Goldy.

Looking forward to the big bash, hopefully Brisbane to win it again. Don’t know what they’ve done differently in the last two seasons to become more consistent.

And how was that first test? Crazy low scores then India go crazy. They dominate down in Australia now. Will this be 3 series in a row in Australia if they win?

Yeah I love the Big Bash too. Heat were so dependent on Chris Lyn & Brendan McCullum weren’t they but they are much more consistent now.

I’ve not supported the Australian cricket side since the under arm fiasco & sand paper gate etc so yeah I was happy to see India triumph like they did.

The Matilda’s are 2-0 up after 13 mins vs Chinese Taipai

Finished 3-1 with mainly local A League players

Brisbane Roar losing again. 4-1 at home to Melbourne City.

First season I had a season ticket they beat Western Sydney in the grand final and that was the third tittle in 4 years. The last season I had one I was sitting in the pouring rain watching them lose 4 or 5 nil at home to Newcastle who were down the league as well. Wasn’t the only big loss we had to watch that season. Didn’t renew after that because they moved up to Redcliffe.

The owners have ruined that club and it’s sad to see considering what Ange did with them and the records they set. 1 point from the first 6 games this season.

I didn’t know they’d relocated to Redcliffe but yeah it’s been a horror start again this season. Watched them a few times & at times they’ve not played to bad then go a concede a couple of goals & it’s over. I haven’t watched an A League match live since they booted Gold Coast United out. I must admit I hated the name & singing chants using the word United in it.
