Yeah but it's a Liverpool site, it's not a Scotland site.Originally posted by Morphorino View PostII don't think it's a laughing matter myself really, unless of course the poeple posting are italians or fans of italy. If LFC got knocked out of something and someone came here on the windup he be crucified, for the scottish supporters it's the same thing.
I'm scouse, and I think I wanted to see Scotland go through more than England, they've done a really good job considering the group they got and I think they deserved it more, than England. The unfortunate thing is it looks like the roles will be reversed if the russia match stays as it is
For what it's worth, i want all the top sides in the finals of major tournements, that's the whole point. To see the best sides fight it out.
Having said that, i was rooting for scotland, because they've fought so hard and put in more effort than most superior sides do. Nations with top players that underperform are cheating their fans, while the Scottish side played HUGELY above themselves to put themselves in with a chance.
As for the game, the decision at the end for that freekick was scandalous.
From the other side of the coin though, scotland's goal was offside and italy scored a legitimate goal in the 1st half that was wrongly ruled out.
If the scots reversed that situation, had a legit goal wrongly ruled out and conceded with an offside goal, they'd be fuming. (Well, they already are, but you get my point).
Italy are the superior side and on the balance of the game, bearing in mind the nature of the scottish goal and the disallowed italian goal, they probably deserved to go through.
It's a shame Scotland couldnt have got a 1-1 and made the french earn their qualification, mind.

Not looking for an argument on this one, but i'd wager it's likely there's more scots than italians, given LFC is in England and scotland being a home nation. But alas it's not really important in the grand scheme of thingsOriginally posted by DJS View PostYeah but it's a Liverpool site, it's not a Scotland site.Thomas Hicks Senior

Doesnt the rule say that if any part of your body (with which you can legally play the ball) is goal-side of the defender, then you're offside?Originally posted by kurtangle01 View PostThat second Italian goal was, apparently, not given due to a hand ball by Di Natalie.
Ferguson was on-side. The rule is daylight between the players. Did you see daylight? If he was offside it was by a ball hair.
And anyway I'm not saying anything to you on here that I wouldn't say to your face. If you think it's stereotyped I really couldn't give a bollocks.
The Italian football team are notorious as being diving cheats. I think it's fair. Don't like it? don't read it.
I dont think the 'daylight' thing has ever actually been enforced.

I wouldnt be particularly capable of looking at the bigger picture now either, if i was scottish. But being impartial, i can see that scotland should now be seeded 2nd in the WC qualifiers and that will give them a very good chance of qualifying for south africa. There's more positives than negatives overall.Originally posted by kurtangle01 View PostYep, fair enough. Not much of a consolation now though.
At the end of the storm...

Not strictly true. If Scotland had won in Georgia, then they'd be top now and France would have needed to WIN away to Ukraine to overtake them.Originally posted by Ben Tover View PostYes it would because Scotland would have needed a point today instead of the win.
Instead, Scotland are out and France are through regardless of what happens in Kiev.
So quite a difference really.
That Georgia loss was the killer result for the Scots.

No, i take that point. But your initial point implied a situation whereby someone comes in on a windup to get a reaction out of the 'home' posters. And i'd agree with you in that instance. But as i said, despite there being more Scots than Italians, it's still not a Scotland forum, so therefore the point isnt as valid IMO.Originally posted by Morphorino View PostNot looking for an argument on this one, but i'd wager it's likely there's more scots than italians, given LFC is in England and scotland being a home nation.
