Prior to Euro 92 Scotland had never qualified for the European championships.

They did however qualify for every world cup final held between 1974 and 1990. A time when Souness, King Kenny and even Hansen were getting regular games for the national team.

Scotland's problem then was actually progressing from the group stages of these tournamtes. Something that they never actually achieved despite having, on paper, some excellent squads. Argentina in 78 being the most notable example of this.

I'm happy about the result. Italy are villans and I like when the 'bad guys' are around, it makes things more entertaining. Furthermore I enjoy it when Wales, N. Ireland, Ireland and Scotland lose since their supporters spend their lives giving England football ****e.

...but in fairness do we not love when England fail in Major championships after "the whole country gets carried away with thinking that they are the best team in the world and this time will win".....but then they lose and get knocked out....its pure comedy and joy seeing them fail
