I've said it in my posts in this thread. In the end, it's a question of taste and opinions. It's not black on white mate.

'growing up during that period'...do you mean in the 90's? Manchester United's history stretches further than the last 15 years Fredo.

And my research is the knowledge I have gained for many years being surrounded by Mancs and United fans. Maybe we should try and find a poll by United fans?

And for the record, Cantona was a very good player but there's no way in hell he was on the same level as other past United greats.

I agree, but I'm the only one in favor of Cantona in this thread, so I had to look at stats showing I wasn't the only one.

Cantona would never have won a European Footballer of the Year award, simply because of his bad boy image and his 'franc parler'. Authorities hated him. But he was a media darling, as he knew how to use the English press.

My point was that, brain wise, Cantona could read a game of football much much quicker than Zidane, or any other player of his era and beyond. As regard technical ability, I'll let Zidane get the edge over him ... But not in the head. Cantona was years ahead. I can compare him to someone like King Kenny, as the closest comparison, and coming from me that's a compliment.

I bet with you that he's at least on a par with or more than every other player in their entire era. I've said it, they better not say that because of what he did and how he tarnished their image (king fu kick etc ...).

There's no way this would show in the 'official' polls.

But on pure genius, I can't see Law or Best ahead of him.

Fredo, you're off your head mate. Zidane was one of the greatest readers of the game I have ever seen. The guy could pin point through balls whilst looking in the opposite direction.

                I didn't say he wasn't great mate.

And, let we agree to disagree. I just can't go on like that. You're too tough a nut to crack.

It's more about you not knowing when to admit you are wrong and step back, Fredo... you just keep banging on...

How can I be wrong if it's a matter of opinion mate ? Some see Pele as the best while others see Diego.

I just can't accept that people won't acknowledge me having an opinion different to theirs. Anyways, it's been a sensible discussion I think, until we all ran out of arguments.

I've been the only one pro cantona in this thread. How boring would it be if I wasn't spicing it up.

                      Let me repeat...

Well, some opinions are more correct than others...

Anyway, best let this one lie now.

I am playing devil's advocate here, but there is a massive parallel in this discussion between Cantona and our own John Barnes.

Different types of player, of course, but we absolutely idolise Digger, but he never made it on the world scene.

Is it fair to say that if Cantona wasn't world class then nor was digger?

My point isn't to open the discussion into was-Barnsey-world-class-or-not. It is purely to try to contextualise the Utd fans view of Cantona.

                          You're smarter than that Tomas.

Ok, one if not his best. Could Zidane have done that ? For me, it's a no.

To say that Cantona could read a game much much quicker than Zidane is just so wrong it is blasphemous! get a grip man, 3 pages of crap sticking up for that ****ty cunt player? And elevating him above one of THE very best of ALL time?

I have no doubt that Zidane could have done that at all.

He did stuff like that many times.

Anyway, we just have to move on now.
