rubbish idea - for one it takes money away from Liverpool

everyone one complains there too many foreigners in the team now they want us to play abroad.

then what would happen that country's league would suffer?

if you want to see live football support your local teams
Its times like these we learn to live again FF

well well....look what's just turned up on the BBC!

Since they're suggesting an extra match...I'm guessing that they'll use the positions from the previous season to determine who plays who. For example PL Winners play Championship Playoff winners and so on until 10th place vs 11th.

The games would be in places like the US, Dubai, Thailand, Japan, China, Hong Kong. We could, in theory, be flying 12 hrs to the far east, playing a game on a Saturday, flying 12 hrs back to the UK then flying off somewhere else for a CL game on the Tuesday or Wednesday?

Nothing wrong with marketing the game but most of these countries are so far away that it isn't practicable to hold these games during what is already a congested season. If we can make space by getting rid of one or two dates in the international calendar i.e. fewer meaningless friendlies, then it might work.
        Never knowingly optimistic

From what I've seen - this game is not a home or away game - it is an extra game. It doesn't matter to season ticket holders - they still get their full quota. I don't think there would be any seedings on the extra game - BBC suggest the top 5 would be kept apart and that makes sense. So there would be an element of luck - playing Derby 3 times over the season or playing Tottenham 3 times.
I don't think its a bad idea - its undoubtedly spawned from the NFL idea of playing of games in Europe.
I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.

I think it would be great, and I can't believe how small minded and petty some people are being on here about it. Jesus 'if they wanna see a game they should get on a plane and go to Anfield or just watch on tv'

How good would an away day in Australia or over in Ireland be? I'd be well up for that, don't see why people can't just see it as a bit of fun and a great marketing exercise rather than whinging about it. As long as they don't go too far - one game a season would be quite enough.

Joke of an idea. Just put an extra pre-season game on.

Because it ****s up the competition thats why. Why can't you get it. Is it small minded to protect the ****ing league??

We can all do stupid icons by the way.

Bit of fun. It's meant to be a serious competition. You've given yourself away completely there lad.

Oh have I really 'lad', guess I'm not as much of a fan as you are just cos I can see further than out of my own back yard.

**** me some of you old timers really don't know how the world works - if you don't move forward you're standing still, and get left behind. Jesus the Yanks gave up one of their HOME games to promote the sport abroad, and they only get 8 of the ****ers a season, I can only imagine the reaction of some of you if that was us

                      No genuine response once again.

If you think its just a bit of fun then no doubt you don't really give a **** what happens.

If you want to explain how this doesn't undermine the fairness and thus the value of the competition then feel free.

I've given you plenty of chances to explain it but you just keep dodging the key issue because there's no answer, or because you think the fairness of the competition isn't too important. I can't figure out which.

                        Some possible ideas:

                        1. The lowest placed teams choose who to play. For example set a deadline of the end of October and then the team 20th at that point can choose who to play from the top 10. The team 19th can then pick from the rest and so on.

                        OR.

                        2. Put the overseas match at the start of the season and not play it for points. Instead, play to help decide the forthcoming fixture list. I.e. the winners are given a more favourable fixture list.

                        OR.

                        3. Have it as a cup match. For example an all Premiership round of the FA Cup so that only 10 teams progress to the third round (gives more places to lower division teams).

This is a dreadful idea. Apart from the strain on players of long distance travel then it destroys the way the league works. It would unbalance the competition, with championships and rleegations issues inevitably ending up being decided on the absis of an extra game where the Scum get to play Derby and Arseal ahve to play Chelsea, or something like that. This is just the Prem selling its soul for even more money. If it goes through, i would stop watching.

not necessarily "hertsred". Long distance travel is not really a strain - the players can afford first class which is very comfortable - just have a look at the A380 planes and depending on the timing of matches, they may not even need to adjust their body clocks.

As for the impact on the way the league works, well I agree it would take somethng away from that. However, if it is going to happen then we need to think of the best way for it to happen. Which is why I've put the above ideas forward.

I'm from Australia and I think you miss the point. It degrades the competition because it is no longer an even one.

I would be fearful that this idea is put out there but the end result will be to keep the 38 game competition and take away someone's home game.
