He'll make a few token quotes about how he loves playing at Old Toilet and it will simmer down until next summer.
      that's the worst case scenario.

he's just had an op so will come into the new season without a preseason.

would be great if his had a bad start then the fans would turn on him as although Stevie changed his mind the matter was closed whereas with ronaldo the specuation will be there.

I doubt he can have as good a season. Most man u fans i talk too say he doesn't always turn up to the big matches - would be great if he hit a bit of bad form as the fans would turn on him.
Its times like these we learn to live again FF

What is interesting is the local press are being fed negatives about him from inside the club. This doesn't happen without someone's knowledge, so reading between the lines all is not well.

You are right though, most of the genuine fans would have him sold in a shot, mid you the plastic ones are all claiming its a misunderstanding .

          Ferguson says Ronaldo is staying
Sir Alex Ferguson says winger Cristiano Ronaldo will stay at Manchester United next season.

Ferguson confirmed he met Ronaldo, 23, in Lisbon last week after much speculation about the player's future.

"The meeting went well - I think we both put across our points of view - where we stand and where the player stands," explained Ferguson.

"I can say he'll be a Manchester United player next season. That's our stance - he won't be sold."

United will hope that Ferguson's comments at a press conference in South Africa will put an end to rumours linking Ronaldo with a transfer to Real Madrid.

Can't see him staying at Utd and not unsettling things. He's made it clear he wants out. The fans have turned on him and, as fickle as they are, it would be a rocky ride.
I'll believe he's not going when he says so. His injury has probably delayed it though. Fergie had probably said he can go next year, if he stays and plays the rest of this season once he returns.

                He's a joy to watch.

Questionable attitude but a supremely talented player.

I'd say he would be an ideal signing for the United team of last season (i.e. with Ronaldo) and a decent signing even if he left but he certainly needs the rest of the team to be providing the ball for him to shine. He is intelligent enough in his movement to make up a great deal for his less than stellar workrate.

Ronaldo: I'm Joining Madrid Next Week
                    31/07/2008 11:54

Cristiano Ronaldo has sensationally told Spanish newspaper 'AS' that he will be joining Real Madrid, and will next week travel to Manchester to notify Sir Alex Ferguson that he is leaving the English and European Champions.

Real Madrid have been on red alert ever since the Portuguese international spoke of his ambition to join them. Madrid President Ramon Calderon has even boasted of how he would splash out €100m on the United man, only for the English club to refute all offers and shackle the player.

It now seems as if the English club has no choice but to sell, as Ronaldo has issued an ultimatum as he attempts to cut and run from Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.

Ronaldo is currently in Portugal where he is recovering from injury but he admits that he will return to England next week to confront his club and tell them that he is joining Real.

"Everything is fine. Next week I will return to England and tell them [Manchester United] that my only desire is to play for Real Madrid and that I will not negotiate," Ronaldo told AS.

According to reports in Spain, the winger will hold a meeting next Tuesday with Ferguson and the club's owners to tell them that he has had enough.

It's not what United fans want to hear but it seems as if the Ronaldo saga is finally coming to an end and no doubt Calderon will be dancing to the tune of Ronaldo's words.

Then there's this. Kill two birds with one Madrid.

Ferguson Bombshell: If Ronaldo Leaves, So Will I

Sir Alex Ferguson has dropped a bombshell by sensationally revealing that he will quit as manager of Manchester United if Cristiano Ronaldo leaves to join Real Madrid.

It has been the transfer soap opera of the summer, and the most explosive episode so far may have just been aired.

With Man Utd publicly insisting that the Portuguese wizard is staying, Real Madrid quietly confident that they can get their man, and Ronaldo himself still remaining silent, Sir Alex Ferguson has moved to drop an absolute bombshell regarding the issue.

Ferguson, who has won more trophies than any other manager in the history of English football, has threatened to quit Manchester United if Ronaldo is sold.

"If Ronaldo leaves, I'm going too," the Scot is quoted as saying by Spanish newspaper Marca.

It is quite an astonishing statement from Fergie, who has been at Man Utd for the last 22 years, winning 10 Premier Leagues, five FA Cups, two Champions Leagues and an Intercontinental Cup, among a plethora of other honours.

Ferguson is well known to being a master when it comes to playing the media, and these comments, if Marca have reported them accurately, may have been intended to pile up the guilt on Ronaldo, and pressure him into staying at Old Trafford.
