To increase the momentum of the throw, Delap takes four steps from the advertising boards around the pitch, followed by one long stride.
In doing this he plants his front foot solidly on the ground propelling all momentum forward, thus increasing the speed the ball is released at.
Delap says he does not work on building his upper body strength and physique, although he uses his shoulders and lower back muscles to give power to his throw.
For the ball to reach his target faster, Delap throws it on a flat trajectory releasing with lots of backspin.
The amount of backspin he uses counters gravity so the ball will travel straight even though it is released at such a low angle.
His target tends to be two players within 6ft of each other.
The throw-in is more accurate than a corner as more muscles are used to control the direction in which the ball travels.
Because the offside rule isn't in effect for throw in's and he as such range and accuracy it's even better more powerful a set-piece than corners and free kicks.
Instead of giving away a throw in to save the corner we're going to start seeing teams do the opposite with Stoke. Lol.
The 45 yarder at the weekend (well, just shy, but not by much) was ridiculous. Bionic arms I tella ya.
It is incredible throw he has, and it basically gives Stoke an extra 10 or so set pieces in a game. This is bound to give goals, and I read that 7 of stokes 13 goals has come from a throw in
Funny how no ones ever (that I recall) picked up on it before then because he's been around for years.
Dave Challinor at Tranmere had the same throw, think he made a career out of it.
Davey challinor made delaps throws look like childsplay. Challinor was unreal - he could either throw it in high and looping, or ****ing drill it in like a rocket - he was ****ing unreal.
i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

You cant really be offside from a corner either mate, considering it's delivered from the goal line itself, there's no way you can deliver a 'forward pass' without the ball going out of play.

Delap can too. The 2 he created against mancs, one was high and looping one was direct

Yeah, but a corner's not as accurate as his throws. I tells ya, the guys not human.
