I read an interview where he said that he had given up hope of playing internationally again (although not retired) as he felt he was seen as too old and that Ireland were looking to have a young team develop. Why he hasn't been picked more before I couldn't say."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

He was always a very injury prone player. Everytime he was picked for an international squad he always seemed to pull out injured. I think that various managers just lost patience with him. I don't think he would have become an international regular for us but his versatility would have made him a very handy squad player.Originally posted by dww View PostI read an interview where he said that he had given up hope of playing internationally again (although not retired) as he felt he was seen as too old and that Ireland were looking to have a young team develop. I agree about his ability. I would think that someone with such a specific talent would be worth a go in the 'Jermain Jenas' position in almost any international squad (i.e. the player who is always there but is never going to play under normal circumstances). If you are not having any joy and need a goal then he would be a great option to have on the bench."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Exactly. All we need now is to bring the Happy Giraffe Niall Quinn out of retirement to get on the end of a few throws and we'll storm our way to the World Cup.Originally posted by dww View PostCheers for clearing that up.

Remember going to Prenton Park he threw the ball to the other side of the pitch and lead led to a Tranmere throw he jogs over takes it and it goes out on the other side he jogs over..
Ive got a big throw in but not one upper body muscle, pulled my calf once taking a throw.

They stopped that more than 8 years ago now, it was getting incredibly out of control.Originally posted by slimbimjim View PostIf they ever changed the rules to allow set piece takers to come on as temporary substitutes like they do with Hockey, he would be priceless!
David Beckham, Maradonna and Gazza would also be able to play into retirement!
You had dedicated players who weren't good at hockey at all, but who had incredible upper body strenght and who could drag-flick / strike a ball with amazing power and accuracy.

Can you imagine a dream team of Delap and Beckham?
