Finished at the Olimpico 1-1. Juventus should have won. Legrotellie hitting the post with a long range strike was their closest chance.

The game in France looks like a dead rubber - a bit like a condom from Neil Young. Likewise the game between Almeria and Atletico.

Bruno Cheyrou (now at Rennes) just been sent off for a second yellow in the Lille v Rennes game in France. Lille 1-0 up. 2 mins left of injury time.

Sure, they're all enemies of the people too but I also would include the commentators. There was a game recently (I mentioned it on here I think) where the commentator and summariser were talking for ages like there was only one team on the pitch. It was Real Madrid and they were losing but, instead giving the opposition any credit, all they raved about was how crap Madrid were.

        It was excruciating.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

That could be also in English, Italian, French, Polish, Japanese football. Its human nature to look at the bigger animal's weaknesses rather than smaller's strengths.

Sure, that can happen but this was on an entirely different level from the norm - I've never heard anything like it. It was terrible.

Sky do tend to use the bottom of the barrel scrap leftovers for commentating on Spanish football. I mean, Terry Gibson?

True, although actually I haven't found Gibson too bad (yet).

I used to think Gerry Armstrong was OK but he grates now.

He has turned into the Jamie Redknapp of Spanish football now by also commentating on the action rather than analysing it. I say bring back Italian football on British TV and James Richardson to present it with Paul Elliot or Luther Blisett in the stands with him.

Then again, Italian football is pretty crap these days.

I am starting to really dislike football. I watched a fair bit over the weekend but it left me cold. I have no real interest in watching Premiership games apart from when we're playing or if one of our main rivals gets f*cked over. The FA Cup and League Cup leave me cold and the standard in other domestic leagues is shockingly poor.

Scottish football is as bad as League One; Spanish football is ruined by the commentators, most teams' inability to defend and Barcelona running away with the title; German football barely even counts as football; Dutch football is impossible to follow from one season to the next because all the best teams sell all their best players in every transfer window; South American football is marred by over excited ESPN commentators and the fact the championships are so bizarre although at least there is the occasional saving grace of having a bunch of midgets playing for teams called Arsenal and Everton; and, international football is tiresome except for the big tournament finals and even then England contrive to ruin them one way or another, either by being so inept they fail to make the finals or lose laughably once there or by having such ****ty supporters, not forgetting the pathetic media overkill that envelops us until the proper stuff starts again in August although the excitement of that soon fades...

On the plus side, yesterday I watched the first cycling coverage of the new season and tomorrow the racing starts - it may just be nothing more than a tour of Adelaide and used by most of the pros as a chance to get some warm weather racing in their legs so it's hardly the real thing but at least it's some cycling.

Maybe I should join a cycling forum.

I like German football on the rare occasions I see it.
Whenever Italian football was last on I was starting to get into that again too. It is very hit and miss though.
Dutch football resembles chess games as much as it does the PL. Watching the league develop is always fun as it is generally so tight and all the English commentators are baffled by the tactical diversity and level that everyone cares about it. Not often great to watch though I admit.
It is incredible how much defending in this country has come on in the last five years. So far ahead of the rest of Europe now, which considering how poorly thought of our league was defensively not so long ago is incredible.

Yes, good point. I used to like watching Italian football for the quality of the defending - if an attacker scored then usually it was because something special had been done. Now it's often just defensive without good defending.

I wish defending in England had been better in the last ten minutes of last night's match.

A lot of the Italian teams have evolved since the Calcio days of defending. Look at Juve, for example, on paper not some of the best defences but they are extremely strong and effective except for Sunday's howler by Manninger but Buffon will be back. Inter have developed a more street smart approach to defending likewise Milan however they look a lot more vulnerable to concede due to the lack of width.
