Yes, but during that run he made a measly three saves in a game - hardly tested. He is better than Carson in his positioning, organisation but my point is, is that he was hardly tested due to the solidity in the defence and as I have pointed out in the previous post, they deserve the accolades rather than Van Der Sar as when push comes to shove, or ball comes lofted in the area, he simply can't handle it.

The general consensus on Redcafe is that the voting will be split between the United players hence give Gerrard the award which I personally think he duly deserves for his consistency. A lot of them seem to also think that Van Der Sar, Ronaldo, Giggs and Ferdinand should not be in there.
Side note: Giggs has started the same amount of games as Torres.

Van Der Sar is part of that defence though, he sees the whole picture in front of him so organises the defenders to be a solid, cohesive unit. The fact that he makes so few saves goes to show how well they work together to minimise shots on goal. The success of a defence is very much because of every member of it (and the midfield and forwards really) and not in spite of vital areas of it.Originally posted by Joe King View PostYes, but during that run he made a measly three saves in a game - hardly tested. I would die for that Liverpool shirt. I think the club loves me and I feel the same, no matter what the situation." - Pepe Reina, Nov '09.

Of course Van Der Sar is part of the defence however is as key as Ferdinand or Vidic? Would the United defence be weaker if Van Der Sar was sidelined or dropped? Personally think Van Der Sar is vastly over-rated, the nominations clearly reflect that. No way, is he the best keeper in the Premiership.Originally posted by BFG View PostVan Der Sar is part of that defence though, he sees the whole picture in front of him so organises the defenders to be a solid, cohesive unit. They look a differnet prospect with Ku...Ku...that Polish (??) keeper in goal, or even the "highly" rated Foster, so i'm guessing VDS is doing something right.

I agree with you there but I think his contribution to their defense is as valuable as anyone elses and yes they would be a lot weaker if he was dropped. His concentration and organisation is excellent. If it wasn't they wouldn't have got so many clean sheets on the bounce.Originally posted by Joe King View PostOf course Van Der Sar is part of the defence however is as key as Ferdinand or Vidic? Pig is awful. Never even rated him at WBA. Foster is extremely inexperienced and quite rash with his decision making. I wouldn't be surprised if Fergie, given the right money, would sell Foster.Originally posted by Scratch View PostThey look a differnet prospect with Ku...Ku...that Polish (??) keeper in goal, or even the "highly" rated Foster, so i'm guessing VDS is doing something right.
Debatable. His communication skills lack and more often than not do you see Ferdinand give Van Der Sar a rollicking for not talking. He is a good shot-stopper but by far doesn't deserve this sort of accolade.Originally posted by BFG View PostI agree with you there but I think his contribution to their defense is as valuable as anyone elses and yes they would be a lot weaker if he was dropped.
