Really, £5m? That's some deal, he was being mentioned as a potential Xabi replacement for about 3x that fee.

McCartney aside, Wigan's transfer deals have been a bit bizarre. In the last 6 months, they've lost all of their strike force, Valencia and Palacios. They haven't exactly replaced them with quality. I think a season of struggle is their future.

They have made alot of money by selling their best players. Palacious, Valencia and Heskey must have brought them in about £30m, they've lost Zaki and have a chance in manager and are signing players for a couple of million, I think they could be in real trouble this season.

Barcelona have agreed to send Brazilian starlet Keirrison out on loan for the 2009/10 campaign.

The Brazilian recently completed a move to the Catalan giants from Palmeiras, but he faces considerable competition for places at Camp Nou.

As a result, it has been decided that the 20-year-old playmaker would be better served spending a season in Portugal.

Keirrison is delighted to have been awarded the opportunity of regular first-team football at Benfica and is looking forward to developing his game at Estadio da Luz.

"I am very happy, Benfica are a big club that everyone knows," he told Globoesporte.

"Besides, playing in Portugal will make my adjustment to European football easier because of the language and also because of the many Brazilians that play in the team."

While Keirrison is looking forward to his Portuguese challenge, he admits he cannot wait to get back to Barca and play alongside new arrival Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

"I met Ibra yesterday because we were at the same hotel," he said on Tuesday.

"We spoke in English and he seemed like a really nice guy.

"He told me he will be waiting for me next year. It will be great to play alongside him in the future."

Im pretty sure he's a defensive midfielder though so don't see him getting you many points on fantasy football, especially at sunderland

Apparently the name De Rossi appeared in the squad list on the Arsenal webiste yesterday with the number 13 shirt number... It was quickly removed... A bit like the Johnson appearing on our online shop! Done deal?! Could be a good signing for Arsenal, althougn not exactly the enforcer they were looking for.
