the reality is that we as liverpool supporters have probably predicted there downfall as many times as we have said next year for our success.

BUT we do know that ronaldo papered over many a crack in that team, but as mentioned with 80m he may well build a stronger and better team.....but it will take time to gel and just maybe it may not work this time.

Also he may have 80m but thats to replace 2 players who brought 102 goals in 2 seasons and also they need at least 2 quality midfielders as well.

Knowing Ferguson, even if he doesn't replace him straight away, he'll get other players to 'up their ante'. Rooney can still progress and become a world class player, as well as Nani and Anderson, all players still young and with some potential.

I understand the hope all this will weaken them, although as you say it may not.

I simply meant that even if Barcelona do want Vidic, it's far from certain Ferguson would sell him.

Manchester United owners the Glazer family have confirmed Sir Alex Ferguson has the green light to strengthen his squad this summer.

The Red Devils have a void to fill in their side with superstar Cristiano Ronaldo set to join Real Madrid in a world record £80million deal.

United have been linked with a host of players this summer, including the likes of Antonio Valencia, Karim Benzema and Franck Ribery.

The club are sure to bring in at least one forward in the close season with Carlos Tevez's future unclear following the conclusion of his loan spell at Old Trafford.


In the meantime fans' fears that the club will not reinvest the proceeds from Ronaldo's proposed sale back into Ferguson's playing squad have been eased by the Glazers.

"The decision reflects Cristiano's desire to move on and the manager has accepted that," confirmed a Glazer spokesman.

"The Glazer family as owners, have always supported the manager since their takeover and that is against the situation."

My worry is that if they bring in 2/3 players like Benzema, ribery and valencia....they will goback to being that fluid attacking unit we saw 2/3 years ago....but it wont happen overnight

i won't be that concerned if united lost tevez and ronaldo - and brought in Benzema, Ribery and Valencia - maybe good players, particularly Ribery but the benzema signing doesnt bother me and it's not if valencia has really raped everyone in the premiership - and i think that ronaldo was that big for them that even signing those three, they would still miss him!

Whilst i am not out celbrating the end of united's dominence as they will still be a force under ferguson whoever they sign they will be strong - i am pleased that for me they have lost their best player. I hear a few mancs saying - yeah well we were fine when we sold beckham/van niistelrooy and keane went etc!!

But in my eyes this is different! - firstly whilst very very good players none of them were truely a world class player in the top 5, maybe even three in the world at the time! secondly when all three of those players went, United still had a a great side so they weren't missed and those players were more easily replaced.

But United are now at a stage that as well trying to find a replacement for one of the top 5 players in the world (at a time when they have no chance of signing the other top 4 - messi, Kaka, gerrard and torres) and on top of that they are losing a very good striker in Tevez, their other £30m striker berbatov has looked ****e, giggs and scholes are 105 and 108 respectively, their keeper is 102, and hargeaves is crocked, runours that they might even lose vidic, - they may have £80m, maybe even £100m but for me thats going to have to stretch a hell of a long way and is going to include some potentially overpriced buys or gambles that may go tits up!

Yes united are always a threat, and they may go out and spend this £80-100m really well and come back stronger! - but it's not as simple as saying, yeah no worries, sign benzema, ribery, valencia and they will be class! - it's a huge gamble and a lot to ask and if it goes tits up it could go really ****ing tits up for them

Potentially he could be great but hasnt produced for france yet and yes he is young.......and he may become a great player but thats all they would be buying Potential. They need World class and now.
