There is a wage cap...it's something like clubs aren't allowed to spend more than 40% of their annual turnover on player wages. But, you can count donations as part of the turnover so the owners 'donated' a ridiculous sum of money to the team meaning they can spend pretty much what they want on wages. I think this is the way they managed to get Kasper Schmeichel as well.
