    To be honest I feel sorry for Sol. He gets a lot of flak - who really cares whether he's gay or not? It's entirely his business.

    As for the Notts County thing, he made a bad choice which was entirely avoidable if he'd really thought it all through.

    Still, we all make mistakes.

    Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

        His contract was £40,000 a week. I'm not sure he would have gone there for half of that.

          I meant with him leaving. He could have continued picking up his paycheck and played at that level but instead he walked off.

              Sol Campbell is free to resume his football career after his dispute with Notts County was resolved today. The League Two club had been holding on to his registration after the defender walked out on Meadow Lane just one game into his four-year deal

              The move opens the way for the 35-year-old to sign for Newcastle United, where the manager, Chris Hughton, last month said that the former England defender still "has a lot to offer the game".

              The Professional Footballers' Association chief executive, Gordon Taylor, told BBC Sport: "Sol Campbell is now a free agent. His contract dispute has been resolved and he is free to pursue football in the January transfer window. He can sign for any club he wants now."

              Although free to sign with a club, Campbell is not expected to play until January.

              Despite saying Campbell's exit was by "mutual consent", County had refused to release the player's registration unless he agreed to a "statement of departure". Taylor said that reaching an agreement had been a "delicate" process but he would not comment on the "intricacies" of the settlement.

              Hughton had earlier expressed a keen interest in the former Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Portsmouth defender. "Sol is one signing that might possibly happen here," Hughton said. "Although he'll get a lot of offers, I wouldn't rule him coming to Newcastle out."

              Campbell, whose fiancee is from the north-east, has previously said: "I would be very interested in a move to Newcastle. Newcastle are a very big club and could well be heading back to the Premier League. I've been approached by a few clubs, Newcastle are one of them, and I have reasons for wanting to go there."
