pennos are more about keeping your cool than technique. if you take a good penalty, you have to believe it will go in. if you are unsure, it will find a way to stay out of the net.

      Eggggggzzzzzackly.

I always changed my mind repeatedly before striking it, too. Definitely more a mental thing, which is why I totally understand why some teams don't practice - nothing can prepare you for the match situation.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

i've always had more success relaxing than striking it cleanly. which sounds dumb.

They say the longer you take from when the whistle is blown, to striking the ball...

.. the more chance it has of going in.

Scientists reckon that england rush and take it straight away - why we are not that good at shootouts.

          Germans however, take their time.

I had a particular little routine I used to follow each time. I would decide which corner I was going to place it in, then I would take a cheeky look at the opposite corner, just long enough for the keeper to spot it. I would then walk away and place the ball, take a short run up, only ever looking at the ball. I was a pretty good ball striker and used to practice them a lot, so I would just side foot it really powerfully into the side netting. Most times the keeper fell for the fake look, but when they never I normally struck it well enough that they never had a chance anyway.

I always felt I would score because I believed in my little routine and ability to pick my spot.

I always think looking at a corner gives too much away, keepers tend to see right through it nowadays.

That's the whole point of doing it though Mike, I was meant to be "giving too much away", it's a bluff if you don't make it too obvious, they almost notice it subconsiously and act on it accordingly, if done right it was an absolute winner trust me.
