I think the entire footballing community is turning its anger on Henry and it is warranted. However, there is another big white elephant in the room. Henry is just another incident in a series of incidents which is threatening to ruin this game. Why has technology not being used until now. Video cameras will help in reducing such incidents. Why is footballing officiating still in the dark ages. Why is the quality of officiating so poor ( beach ball incident - how can the freaking referee be unaware of the rules of the game)?

Every freaking sport in the planet is using technology to help officiating. Why has football not even considered that. Most penalty decisions can be verified in 5-15 seconds. It might add a minute or two to the game. Why are they not even considering it on a trial basis.

The problem with football is that FIFA/FA/UEFA is too arrogant. They think they can do whatever they want and still they will get the money. They dont care about the people who actually care about the game. The truth is that such misplaced arrogance is common place before the fall.

Before the last two years, I could not imagine life without football. Slowly I am seeing my interest wane a little bit. I was watching Texas - Baylor college american football game and once incident really grabbed my attention.

The Baylor defensive unit made a block and made a gesture towards the Texas attack. Immediately a five yard penalty for taunting. Even the Baylor players looked disgusted at the fellow who taunted. Not a peep from the coach or the assistants. And All the commentators said was "it is harsh but rules are rules". If a similar thing was implemented in England I could imagine Andy Grey going "You are destroying Rooney, He is half the player he is if you prevent him from acting like a barbarian c***. It is all part and parcel of the game. The referee does not understand football".
    Good post

It would be interesting to see if the referee comes out in response to Henry's comments. To me it seems that Henry is implying that he told the referee at the time and gave him the opportunity to reverse the decision. If he told the referee after the match there was nothing he could do about it and Henry's comments are misleading in an attempt to show himself in a better light and place the fault soley with the referee. The referee (or some spokesperson on his behalf should clarify when Henry's comments were made.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Irish Justice Minister Dermot Ahern has joined the furore over French captain Henry's handball by demanding a rematch in the interests of fair play.

"They probably won't grant it as we are minnows in world football
This is all getting a little sicking now. Poor tiny little Ireland, being bullied for being minnows. The game won't be replayed because games don't get replayed ffs, not because it's Ireland.

These types of rules work very well in Rugby too which is indeed a barbarian sport. The replays also work well and there isn't that much disruption in the game either (which is one of the arguments against using the technology).

At the top level there really is no excuse not to use the technology especially as it's not just a game but a multi billion pound industry. The old farts in the FA, UEFA and FIFA need to get with the times.
          We come not to play.

The game should be replayed. No question about it.

Every sport is looking actively on reducing the stress on refereeing using video technology. Even kabbadi for god sake are looking at using technology to make sure if the person touched the line or not.

The truth is that video reviews can be implemented without disrupting the game that much. The time Mongo and Shrek use to shout and argue with referees can be put to good use to review decisions. Moreover restrictions can be placed on number of reviews to 2 per game or something to prevent opposition from creating breaks in the game.

As for breaks in the game, I dont know what the big fuss is about. I would rather have a fairer game cluttered with breaks than a continuous game with
consistent bad refereeing. In the name of tradition, you cannot hang on to all the not so good attributes of a sport when there is so much scope to improve upon it.

For football to progress, there should be a clean up of all the old farts at FA/FIFA/UEFA starting with Sepp Blatter.
