England all the way!!!Originally posted by Shaggy View PostSurprised to hear that although my Uncles over there and other family do tend to support "us"/England once the Irish interest is over. I think it's a family thing...we all get on great and my family is 50/50 split English/Irish.
Question for the less honourable Irishmen...those of you who'll support ABE (anyone but England) - England draw France in the quarters, who do you cheer for?

That's really good to hear. I assumed that most would be an ABE (as Shaggy defined) but nice to know that some aren't that bitter. I was cheering on Ireland last night and it really was very cruel way to lose like that.Originally posted by greenbloodred View PostAbsolutely, I'll be getting right behind England although i would also like to see Spain do well. I ****ing know now how gutwrenching it is to be denied by a slice of cheating and poor decision making.
I am now officially a bitter Irish begrudger that hopes them fickle french ****s fail at the WC.
Hopefully we can get a bit of revenge in the 6 nations.
Shameful for France who will get knocked out early doors anyway

Henry now says he told the ref it was handball when it happened, and the ref replied, "you are not the ref" very fishy.
Henry admitted the ball did strike his hand and claims he told the referee, who chose to allow the goal to stand.
The Barcelona striker said: 'The ball hit my hand, I will be honest. It was a handball, you can clearly see it. (Sebastien) Squillaci went to jump with two Irish players, I was behind him and the next thing I know the ball hit my hand.
'It was a handball, but I'm not the ref. I told (the referee) but he said to me the same: 'You are not the ref.'

The Irish were desperately unlucky but they had more than 1 opportunity to kill the tie off on the night, so whilst they can blame that decision they need to look at themselves as well. If Shaggy has stood his ground, then no, it ain't a penalty...if Given had stood his ground then fine, but he didn't, he dived at the feet of anelka, missed the ball and caught the player.
Using your example, if you lost control of the ball, ran after it and Shaggy stepped across your path to obstruct you, then i'd have no hesitation in giving a penalty.

Ex-Liverpool striker: Gillette should sack Henry
Former Liverpool and Ireland hitman John Aldridge has claimed that shaving giants Gillette have every right to sack French striker Thierry Henry as a brand ambassador following the player’s handball assist in last night’s World Cup qualifier in Paris. The irate Kop hero believes that the ex-Arsenal striker has no excuses for his actions or the manner in which he celebrated William Gallas’ goal and that he has no right to share a platform with fellow Gillette sponsored athletes Tiger Woods and Roger Federer.
“Should they (FIFA and UEFA) ban him? Definitely. Something should happen but sadly it won’t,” Aldridge stated to The Liverpool Echo.
“UEFA is run by a Frenchman (Michel Platini) while FIFA is run by Sepp Blatter. They make the rules as they go along.
“It is just unbelievable. For a footballer who has the highest respect to do something like that and stoop to such a level shows the desperate measures France had to take.
“It’s pretty galling, to put it mildly. It’s all very well him apologising and saying that he told the referee he had handled it but just look at the way he celebrated.
“He raced off as if he had scored himself and when that happens, there is absolutely no way a referee is going to change his mind.
“It’s the biggest talking point in the World Cup since Diego Maradona handled against England in 1986. And to think he makes adverts with Tiger Woods and Roger Federer – they (Gillette) would have every right if they decided to sack him.”

What did the Irish expect, Platini's men were always going through. He (UEFA) even fixed the draw so the supposed big teams would be guaranteed through, imagine if there was no seeding it could have been the French vs Portugal.
Platini is a grade A ****** (and i'm not Irish
)
We come not to play.

I don't think many people will argue with thatThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Still can't believe Scratch thought that was a penalty

Former official Graham Poll on BBC Radio 5 Live: "If we're going to punish Thierry Henry for the handball, we should punish Nicolas Anelka for the disgraceful dive that was an attempt to cheat and con the ref minutes earlier - that is equally as bad. The refs do their best but the players are good at cheating. Take that one incident away, (referee) Martin Hansson had a good game and I'm sure if he had seen the handball he would have given it. Sometimes match officials can't see things because of angles. I'm hoping Hansson makes the final 24 for the World Cup finals when selection is made and that his mistake will not count against him, but he will be worried today because he knows that the mistake happened on his watch."Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
