From the Grauniad's Rumour Mill. Dunno which paper they took it from.

Liverpool are to let 20-year-old attacking midfielder Suso go to Porto. The club will also consider selling Pepe Reina to Arsenal, for an extortionate fee.
That rug really tied the room together.

I'd be happy if we got £5,000,001 for him tbh

Reina said: “There is the possibility to stay at Napoli. It will depend on Liverpool, Napoli and on Reina.

“I have been really happy at Napoli and I feel loved.

“There is a project at Napoli that makes one dream.

“I have never ruled out the possibility to remain at Napoli.”

We really shouldn't be loaning players of his calibre without cast iron guarantees of a purchase at the end of it.

In an interview with radio station talkSPORT, Benitez confirmed that Reina will return to Anfield.

“Pepe has two years left on his contract at Liverpool,” he said. “He has to go back and he’ll stay there. We can’t afford Pepe’s wages.

“The Premier League is a very big league and, in Serie A, we don’t pay big wages like in England. He will have to fight for his position at Liverpool.”

31-year-old Reina, who is currently in Brazil on international duty with Spain, recently admitted he was unsure of his future following the end of his loan spell in Italy.

“Right now I’m only thinking of La Roja,” Reina said to Spanish radio station Cadena Ser last month, with quotes picked up by The Independent.

“My season on loan at Napoli has been very positive and I thank the Napoli people and the club.”

“I will return to be a Liverpool player but I think I’m not in the coaching plans.”

Don't know but its not impossible.Agreed fee once the player performs to a certain pre determined level. If they are saying they can't afford his wages that seems to suggest we were paying some of it while they got the benefit of his services last season.

What would be the point of such a deal? Wouldn't it just equate to a permanent transfer?

Somebody will be after him. It's up to him if he wants to play and probably earn less or get the money and spend time on the bench (or even the Mignolets place)

Rafa must of known this was happening from the very beginning. Unless cheeky old Pepe kept his wages a secret all this time. Rafa has had a keeper for a season on the cheap with no intention of signing him on a permanent basis. Nice work.
