Sometimes yes, but I'm not sure in this case. It was almost in the middle of the goal FFS. Yes, he threw him the eyes a little, but a keeper as good as Reina shouldn't have fell for that and should be saving those.

He's let in too many soft goals this season, and as much as we all love him, he shouldn't be beyond criticism.

I think the striker made him look stupid rather than him making the striker look good ... he opened up to put it far corner and rocketed it near post .. but i hear you all the same

I seem to be a frequent critic of Pepe lately which is a bit unexpected as I absolutely love the guy , but..............

his dip in form over the past couple of seasons has been alarming!

What the hell was he doing for their goal yesterday?

He appeared to follow Odemwinge's eyes rather than the ball, which is just amateurish goalkeeping

I realise other's were more at fault for yesterday's goal, but still I would have backed the Pepe Reina of the Rafa era to have saved that one without a doubt.

We've probably got bigger problems in our team at present, but Reina's dip in form still needs to be addressed ASAP for me. Is it Achteburg? It does seem to have coincided with him coming in as goalkeeping coach. Perhaps he's too pally with Pepe and doesn't push him enough? Could it be Reina has fell into the comfort zone as he has no competition for his place?

Whatever it is it needs to be addressed. We used to have just about the best keeper in the league. Right now I just can't say that's the case

        Agree with both these points.

I dunno what's up with him at the moment. Lack of concentration? Complacency? Has he peaked already? Is it to do with his coaching?

Personally I think he's also looked a bit too heavy over the last couple of seasons which is why he's not making as many reflex saves.

he made a couple of very good saves and was beaten from a one on one, which can hardly be considered a soft goal. Misplaced criticism imo.

Great keeper for me but this season he has let in far to many saveable shots.
His poor form has been overlooked because we are even worse at the other end.

No top flight goalkeeper should have been beaten by Odemwingie's shot, all this he gave him the eyes is rubbish.
Peter (cause I can't spell his surname) didn't change his body position, he didn't open himself up to bend it far post and whip it into Pepe's near post he just ran straight onto it and struck it.
It didn't even go into the corner, poor goalkeeping.

I felt the same too. May be Pepe thought Odemwingie was going to shoot to the right and has been wrong footed suddenly when he shot to the left.

Either way, he has had a poor season by his standards. I hope he isn't looking for a way out at the end of the season. That would suck mightily.

and if imo an offer came in from a Spanish club he would i think make the move

Pepe hasn't been at his best for the past two seasons and he probably knows this better than anyone but he's a still a top keeper and I wouldn't be overly keen on swapping him for anyone else and there is far more to be worried about fixing in the side than Pepe.

I tell you who I have been quite impressed with this season in goals is Ali el Habsi at Wigan. Pepe needs to get back to the fundamentals of what makes him a good keeper, and to making one or 2 mistakes a season, not game. After his red card at Newcastle this wasn't the response we were hoping for.

It still shouldn't have mattered though as we should have been about 10 nil up...

If Pepe goes which nobody would begrudge him, there are alot of quality keepers around. IMO it's not a position that is short of potential targets.

Reina used to make saves that won or saved us games. Now he lets in shots he should save that cost's us games.
I'd love for him to stay here for the rest of his career but he needs to sharpen up, we're addressing that though with the keeper coach going.
