My point is that Mignolet hasn't totally convinced last season and Reina coming back might give him much needed competition. If they both see themselves as No.1, then we might see them produce consistently good performances. There is a philosophy of only signing average (or very experienced keepers) as back up, but that does not always work. For a start, some people were sh*tting their pants when Brad Jones was in the team.

Pepe can see himself as number if he likes but he clearly isn't nor will ever be again.Originally posted by Nigey View PostMy point is that Mignolet hasn't totally convinced last season and Reina coming back might give him much needed competition. I see your point, Felix, but there's never going to be genuine competition between the two of them.Originally posted by Nigey View PostMy point is that Mignolet hasn't totally convinced last season and Reina coming back might give him much needed competition. Agree that it would be great to have two 'keepers who can both push eachother for a starting place. But it won't happen.
Reina's days here are long gone.

Loaning him out again is probably the only real option, he's far too well paid to play second fiddle to Mignolet, and realistically, that's where he is. Mignolet, for all his faults, showed Reina's most recent Liverpool form up for what it actually was - insufficient.
He past his peak around about the time that Roy Hodgson arrived and the 08/09 team was broken up. He was a fantastic keeper for a long time, but he isn't worth the money any more.

He's on ÂŁ5.2m per year or so?
A backup keeper, unless we get someone old, is going to cost at least a few million to buy plus a couple of million per year wages
It's not THAT unrealistic for him to come back and be a backup keeperI saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

No, but is it realistic to expect him to come back and settle into that role? Whilst I would be very happy to see him come back and play a similar back up role to what he does for the Spanish national team, I have a sneaking suspicion that he might agitate sooner rather than later if he was given the number 2 slot.
He was not slow in commenting on Barca when it looked like there was a chance of him ending up there, and he seemed quite happy to natter on about Napoli when it suited him.
The way I see it, if he is not happy with the idea of coming back to Liverpool anbd being number two, then he can hand in a transfer request and look at his wage demands if being number one somewhere else is what he wants.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Oh yeah, totally agree. I just meant that if no-one comes in for him, then it wouldn't be the end of the world if he came back and had a pop at winning his place backOriginally posted by Jaco_Pastorious View PostNo, but is it realistic to expect him to come back and settle into that role? But yep, if there is any viable option of him playing for someone else next season then that's best for everybodyI saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"

Carra a millstone around our neck ? Are you for real?Originally posted by Kenneth View PostWe mug ourselves by giving (often older) players ridiculous wages when they renew creating a millstone around our neck. Carra, Johnson, reina, joe cole, downing, possibly Agger. We can't shift players on the best part of 100 grand a week when they're not at the level for our first team. There aren't many clubs in the world who can pay those kind of wages and most of the ones that can don't want that level of player.
