Line in today's Telegraph saying that he'll go to Napoli on a permanent deal. That is all.

Liverpool play waiting game with Napoli over the sale of Pepe Reina

Liverpool expect negotiations regarding Pepe Reina’s future to drag on until transfer deadline day in late August.......

Napoli evidently feel a compromise will eventually be reached, but it won’t be soon as Liverpool will invite other offers for the goalkeeper and are fully aware of the negotiation tactic being deployed by the Italians to force a cheap sale.

Deary me, refusing to pay €5m for Reina is a bit on the cheapskate side really. As Bascombe says in the article, that's "a bargain for a keeper of his calibre". I hope someone else comes in for him, would serve them right.

They've paid some big fees in recent times too, so I don't know why they're being such arseholes about this. To me it just indicates they don't rate him that highly anyway.

I hope he gets a move back to Spain instead.

Rubbish, it simply means they think they can force a cheaper sale.

Otherwise they'd buy someone else, now, if they don't really rate him, why on gods good earth would any club want a keeper they didn't rate, even for free!

I don't think it's about rate vs don't rate, rather they don't think he is good enough value for money.

We'll see, when they pay up.

I still think it's more that they believe they can get him cheaper is all, whatever they 'think' he's really worth.

My guess is that the wages are more of an issue than the fee. I would think that this is the sort of situation where FFP is making a difference - clubs in leagues without big TV deals (such as Italy) will struggle to justify bringing in players on high wages and any sizeable fee makes things even less likely.

                          its our own fault

we knew the financial position of Napoli after their player sales and should have had a clause in the loan agreement that forces a sale if he plays a preagreed number of games

If he's that good, why is no other club seemingly interested?

Napoli are looking to pay market rate for an asset that nobody else wants. It's like trying to sell your knackered old Ford Cortina for anything other than scrap.
                            Oh I don't know.

Not many clubs pay ~£100k/week wages on a GK.

Personally, if we don't blow the transfer budget then we can afford to keep him in the squad this season and provide real competition for Mignolet, if Reina is prepared to do that. Hell, even if he helps Mignolet improve his distribution it'll be money well spent.

I'd still maintain that if there was any sort of demand for him, then somebody would be willing to offer him wages more akin to the market rate. But yet, there doesn't seem to be anyone else interested.

It's a buyers market in this case.
