Personally I'm glad he's gone. I don't love him like some fans do, although I am grateful for all that he did at the club.

Reina in his last three seasons for us was poor - no two ways about it; his previous few seasons glossed over this for many people. He hardly ever made a save! Ramires' goal in the FA Cup final summed up his final few years for me sadly - near post and Reina didn't even move and stuck a half arsed hand out to see it go in.

I'm not denying he was brilliant for us at one point, and I did think he was awesome, but those last three years he never really convinced me. If I'm being really harsh, his penalty record went down the pan as well, but that can be overlooked.

For the wages he is on, we need someone better. Forget the fact he is backup - for 90k a week he needs to justify that price and he no longer does that imo. He was being left out of the Napoli team last season by their own reserve keeper.

Sad to see he is not what he once was, but as a club we need to move on and get rid of players that our clogging up our wage bill.

Loved him at his peak, but he hasn't been that player for a long time
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"

The ironic thing is, as ‘****’ as he was in those final 3 years, we’ll have spent roughly £70m on defensive recruits (if we buy Moreno) since he left and yet we’ll probably still concede more goals next season than even in his worst years.

And I don’t need anybody weighing in and arguing about our new attacking style etc., it’s just a light hearted observation/prediction.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I wonder if Pepe would have stagnated as much if we didn't block the £20m move to Arsenal when Hodgson took charge or if he would have found his best form again.

He must be gutted considering how things have panned out.

I think he needed a change of scenery, things have gone a bit stale for him here. Fantastic keeper though and I think he could regain it with regular football, it's a shame that he's going to be on the bench and only get the odd cup runout for now because he's better than that. I suppose that's the best he can do to keep his wages (i totally understand his decision). Who knows, an injury or some lack of form could see him get an opportunity.

He can look back at his career with pride regardless. Spanish NT, Barca, Villarreal, Liverpool, Napoli and Bayern. That's one hell of a CV. He's still got several years left too.

Can anyone else remember Pepe's first Anfield appearance?

Yeah, I have a similar view to you.

                      Yep

Semi final of the UEFA Cup, 2001 - I was there, right behind him when he let in Gary Mac's pen

His first one for us was against TNS in a Champions League first round qualifier. I was in the Kop and remember thinking he looked old, and not terribly big considering how tall he was supposed to be.

Yeah, I remember him belting John Arne Riise with a cracking punch. Ginge was in some bother after that one...

I remember the **** up at everton where he flapped it into the net. The Fa cup final was my best memory of him.

Although he did set the wheels in motion for the unhodgsoning of the club with his early contribution to team 'Sack Roy' against Arsenal so not all bad
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.
