I loved him but I think he only lasted as long as he did because he was a big dressing room influence, which isn't a problem per se, but obviously when he flirted with Barca etc he lost the backing of his manager, the players and the fans so there was no reason for him to stay.

He was once a great player for us and loved our club, but the move benefits everyone.

Once a Red Always a Red

A year ago, I wrote a letter to say goodbye to Liverpool FC and its fans after go on loan to Napoli. There were people who asked me why I was doing when I was only on loan for a season and would be back in 12 months. But the reality was that it was clear that my time at Anfield was over. The Liverpool FC had signed Simon Mignolet to be his number one and I had to go on loan. For that reason, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank farewell letter with that because I knew I would not return.

I guess this letter is an update of that now that my departure has been confirmed. And I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone in Liverpool and I say to all the world for all that they have done for me over the years. Lately, it is possible that some of my words have been misconstrued and taken out of context, but it was never my intention to leave Liverpool other than with kind words and I hope this letter will also serve to make it clear to everyone.

I have been extremely fortunate to have spent so many years in which I consider one of the biggest clubs in world football. It has been an honor and a privilege. The memories I take from Anfield, my teammates, the fans and the people of Liverpool will always be with me. I feel sad about my departure, but in the sense that I really enjoyed at the club and is always hard to say goodbye to something that is special to you. I will always be grateful to have played at Liverpool FC and my time at the club was always going to have an end, so it's best to do so without rancor.

All I can do now is look forward to this new adventure that began at Bayern Munich. Be my encounter with Pep Guardiola, who was my first captain at FC Barcelona. Hope you enjoy them as much as I made at Liverpool FC and, again, I am very fortunate to be part of a great club. I will return to Anfield soon, but next time I'll do as a fan and not as a team player. I hope that when I return, Liverpool FC is fighting for major titles as they should always do.

The last thing I would do is to express my gratitude to all those who have supported me at any time since I came to Liverpool FC in 2005-all the coaches I've had; all players with whom I shared a dressing room; all technical bodies who have helped me in so many ways; and each and every one of the fans that gave me and the team the love that others can only dream of. I consider myself a 'Liverpudlian' and I will be for my entire life.

      You'll Never Walk Alone,

      Pepe

He doesn't say rancour in the actual english version of the letter on his website. It just comes out that way in the translated one.

But anyway, Pepe . Sad that he's gone.

Much the same as his first letter. Nothing but complimentary, nothing said out of turn, no reason to feel he has disrespected us. Good luck, Pepe.

He's been like that for a few years now - as soon as he started going **** for us actually, so 3-4 years ago.

He's probably wearing 5 tops though, and thermals.

I've always though that Pepe is the type of player that has to work at keeping weight off though, big boned.

Atleast you can still fit another player on the screen with Pepe..

That's the heaviest I've ever seen him though. There's a few pictures of him knocking about. He looks massive in all of them.
