To be honest I think to a degree the qualifying campaign tactic was pretty much exactly that. Heskey up front to take the need to run around chasing stuff from Rooney, also to hold up lay when needed. Gerrard free to roam from a flank with license to go more or less anywhere - similar to how he was deployed by Rafa for a while except with the flank switched.

I think this is more about mapping out a plan B for Capello and getting a few people fit.

On another note - the new ball seems to ping around like a 'penny floater'.

I think the same applies with who partners Terry at CB, whether SG and Lampard can play together, and with regards to Rooney's strike partner.

Not to mention whether to play 442 or not.

He looks absurdly under prepared to me.
