On Wednesday, Manchester United striker Rooney expressed confidence that England would beat Algeria to move within touching distance of the last 16.

"Against Algeria we can not be at our best and win the game," said the 24-year-old.

When asked what he knew about England's opponents, Rooney replied: "Not much. Belhadj from Portsmouth, but I don't really know much more about them. I'm sure the manager will point out their strengths and weaknesses to us."

It was remarkable how every single quality player made one **** up after another. You're waiting for one player to spark, I thought it was gonna be Gerrard as he it least tried to make things happen, but every one of them made basic **** ups repeatedly. Johnson, Barry, Lampard, Rooney, Heskey, Terry....in reality it was probably an extremely dull game, as nothing really happened, but I was captivated and engrossed in how unbelievably wank they were. We've all seen loads of dross England performances but I don't think I've ever seen it as bad as that. Amazing. Good players, a couple of great ones, and a great manager. And they serve up that!

Well defo go with Gerrard playing off Rooney.......not sure about Lennon though, he hasn't done anything to warrant being a professional footballer with his performances, let alone in the first 11.

About the only area we weren't outnumbered in was defence. Which is probably why we kept passing back to James.

Exactly, I wanted to replace him but there's nothing better waiting in the wings. SWP, no way. Maybe Joe Cole on the right?

Options are limited everywhere. If the first 11 are crap, there isn't a lot on the bench to change things. Lennon and SWP are similar. Carrick is crap. Crouch & Defoe are about all we have.

I wouldl suggest that this was because we were out number in MF and had no outlets, and that Carra and Terry were the particularly unskillful CB pairing.

Oh yeah, Cole. Cole should start on the left.

Operation - I agree with your points about formation, having thought about it.

Yep and then you look at Spain. I know they lost and all that but they're obviously ace, and their second string would have a good run at winning this. Reina in goal, Arbeloa, Marchena, couple of other blokes, Fabregas, Mata, Pedro, Navas, Torres , Llorente

Excellent preparation........how much is Capello on ?
Has had 2 years to find a No.1....failed
Has relied on a injury ravaged CB partnership, and then brought in a sicknote as next best option.........failed
Hasn't copped on to Heskey or how best to utilize Gerrard........failed.

Surely if England don't win this thing....he was to walk

If he can't get a game on the left as the only real left midfielder in the squad, he's not going to get a game on the right.

Cordon is the TV equivalent of Terry. One decent TV Show and he's everywhere. Now nothing he does can do any wrong.
