I know no one has played well but the one shot he had yesterday aside Lampard has done nothing in the two games. Gerrard did more in the 10-15mins he was playing in the middle yesterday than Lampard did all game!Originally posted by Torres View Post1990 and 0-0 and a 1-1 and we got through to the semis. It ain't over yet!
We need crouch and joe cole to start though, and lampard needs to be dropped.
Gerrard needs to play in the centre of the park (be that in midfield or off the striker) so he can influence the game.
Despite the number of wingers that are available they have all been poor Milner, Lennon and Wright-Phillips have all been poor. And the most noticable thing Rooney has done is have a go at the fans, that's been the only thing he's done worth repeating. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

The pressure excuse doesn't wash with me either looking through the team yesterday and the number of caps they have:
Gerrard, Lampard and Ashley Cole have 80 or more caps each
Terry, Heskey and Rooney have 60 or more caps each
James has over 50 caps
Defoe and Crouch have 40 or more caps each
Carragher, Barry and Wright-Phillips have over 30 caps each
The most 'inexperienced' players at International level were Johnson (24 caps) and Lennon (19 caps).
There should be enough experience in there to deal with this situation and by my count 7 of those players have played in Champions League finals they should be able to deal with the pressure. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I do wonder what effect the lack of pace at the back with Terry and Carra has on our attacking mentality though.Play Ball!!!!!!!

With Barry in there to sit in front of them they shouldn't have to worry too much, the attacking players should be able to go out there and play their game. They were playing Algeria who with all due respect shouldn't have caused them too many problems. If they are worried about this for these types of games how much more will it affect them if they get through and face some of the really good sides?Originally posted by Taxi View Post

The most worrying thing is this team has most of its key players at their peak. God knows what team we will have in four years (if we qualify), as this current bunch will mostly be past it/retired.

They seemed to have improved over two years to be fair. I'm not an England fan but I'd have expected quarter finals to be realistic. The fans pundits and media has been going over the top as usual.Originally posted by cream View PostNot sure what else people were expecting, this is the same team that failed to qualify for the Euros only two years ago.
The problem with England is when they play teams they should beat they get dragged down to their level. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I was predicting France in Quarters so an easyish through and out in Semi's to Brazil. But I doubt France will make the quarters now even if we do.
