Way I see it, there's 2 types of diving. There's blatant "he's within 2 meters of me, I best look like I've been shot", and there's "he fouled / is about to foul me, I best make sure the ref notices".

Gerrard is in the latter camp, which is nowhere near as bad, and I can support him without feeling like an hypocrite, although going to that length to justify it probably makes me even more of one

But it does make it harder to hate someone who's just exaggerating, yes.

Unless there is a crackdown in a high profile event (World Cup or CL) where there is either in game or retrospective video analysis and big punnishments, it's going to carry on regardless of controversies like this.
