I made much the same joke weeks ago. It wasn't funny then either. At least it was first though.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I knew it was a weak effort but I succumbed to temptation. Apologies everyone

World Cup organisers say they will not ban vuvuzelas from stadiums in South Africa, despite numerous complaints.

As irritating as they are to some people you can just waltz into another country and tell them how do do football. It's the way it is over there, it should be respected.

i was talking to my mate about the vuvuzela and he raised a valid point in that what makes the world cup crowds so amazing is that you can have ghana playing england and hear the INGERLAND chants on one side of the field and then you can here some african dude from ghana playing a drum and chanting to that, instead of the multicultural feeling to the crowd you get this constant south african drowning bee noise

i think maybe fifa should have considered letting the south african fans deal with the vuvuzela's and then if they arent playing just not let them in so the fans who payed the thousands of dollars to travel to the country (boosting the SA economy) can enjoy the game with fellow countrymen

I was watching the old ESPN re-runs of classic WC games, and I am certain there was a similar noise throughout the game between Brazil and Italy.

That's what i was talking about earlier in the thread - some kind of weird horn noise you'd always get in Latin countries whenever england had an away game in the 1980s

It's not really about telling them how to do do football (although having established association football we sort of do that anyway.) This is the world cup, an international competition controlled by Fifa. It's not like we're trying to reinstall apartheid or something. And in a patronising colonial manner, it's for their own good, it's damaging the image of the competition just so people can act like mongs.
