Who is your pick for player of the finals?

I was just watching the replay of the Spain and Germany match and the commentator was talking about how many of the big names in World Football have failed to live up to expectations.

Rooney, Torres & Ronaldo were mentioned due to their high profile in the English Premier League and I agreed with them but then I was thinking who had really impressed me in the games that I saw. So I'm asking you guys who you were really impressed with?

The one standout for me has been Spain's Iniesta. We know the spanish game is built around possession and this guy is an absolute master at it. Sublime flicks and through balls, good in the tackle, dribble at speed etc. I could watch him play all day.

So who do you rate and why?

I think Scwienstieger has had a great tournement.

As has our own Dirk Kuyt though as he's not a 'big name' or fashionable player he sadly will be overlooked.

Both of those have been excellent. Sneijder and Villa have been very effective too.

While they have, eventually, been very effective I have to say Spain have been pretty dull to watch and lacked incision. Seems really churlish not to consider any of their midfielders though and hence I'll say Alonso and Iniesta have done what they have done expertly.

In no particular order: Villa, Alonso, Xavi, Iniesta, Pique, Sneijder, Robben, Kuyt, Schweinstieger, Mueller, Ozil, Mertesacker, Forlan, Suarez.

I think it's between Schweinsteiger, Villa and Sneijder for me out of those.

i thought it was only me - i've not enjoyed watching spain, yeah they are amazing, and can pass the ball a zillion times and keep possesion for 90 mins and blah blah

For me, I think Alonso's been their best player and again like the above two I mentioned, he will be overlooked because at spain, it's all about Villa, Iniesta and Xavi - but for me when i have watched them it's alonso who has really kept them ticking - class player, class act, can't believe we used to have him.

Another, Forlan had a great tournement, scored goals but really led his country from the front.

I'd like to see an unfancied but deserved name get it - like i say, schwienstiger or kuyt - but it will be either Villa or Sniejder, depending on who wins Sunday - they both have played well, scored goals and are the more fancied big names.

Some of the games, mainly ITV i think it was doing it, were embarrasing with their MOM's.....Regardless of result/performances, you could predict their man of the matches before kick off for each game

Xavi and Iniesta are the main reason Iv wanted spain to win it. They are possibly the greatest attacking midfield combination ever created. Marriage made in football heaven.

However, I don't think either have been the best players in this tournament. Iniesta isn't even fully fit. Its really hard to pick one player.

I think Forlan has done amazingly well considering he's playing in a much less talented team and Im surprised he hasn't had more praise

Schweinsteiger, Villa and Alonso have also been terrific but I would wait until after the final to decide who the best player is. Sneijder, Robben, Kuyt, Villa, Xavi, Iniesta and Alonso are all capable of producing a masterclass in the final and making the choice much more obvious

All of those names you've mentioned I'd expect to see there.

For me Sneijder and Robben haven't been as effective as they have been for their clubs.

Mueller has impressed me as I hadn't seen that much of him before.

Who was the lad from Chile who played on the right side that did well? Very tricky customer.

I'd thought the same until the Germany match. They played better against the Germans and stifled any time on the ball. They were awesome at closing down their space and forcing them into errors.

That's the one. I wonder if anyone's made an enquiry about him yet?

I think I've heard a story like that about every player who has had a good game at the World Cup except Kuyt.
