For me the most effective and valuable players have been Scweinsteiger, Muller, Sneidjer, Kuyt, Xavi, Villa and Alonso in no particular order. Xavi doesn't get a lot of mentions but he IMO he is doing his share of the work even if he has been better. Sweinsteiger and Muller are practically indispensable for Germany and Muller has been directly involved in 7 goals. Sneidjer has been involved in six goals as has Villa with both scoring five. Kuyt has been involved in four goals and has been his usual energised self. Xavi has played most passes and most balls in the penalty area and has two assists I think he has been very good as well as Alonso who is getting better and better.

For me the winner comes from these six players depending on what they do in the final two matches.
          * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Honda looked pretty good for Japan but not player of the tournament.

You've just reminded me of someone that no-one has mentioned yet. One of the leading goal scorers and I think equal top scorer of all time? Miroslav Klose . He's had another good WC.

As did Shane Smeltz for NZ but as you said not POTT I'm hoping no-one comes in with a bid to take Smeltz away from my GCU side.

I don't think we've been blessed with a particularly great world cup to be honest and it is difficult to look past the obvious really as player of the tournie.

                  Villa
                  Forlan
                  Schweinsteiger
                  Oezil
                  Klose
                  Gyan
                  James Philip Milner Fanclub #1

                  Curtis Julian Jones Fanclub #1

Higuain had a good tournement as well.

Any others in the Argie side ?

Defo no-one in the Italian side

No - 1 short of all time

I was pleased about it, nothing against Klose, like - credit where credit is due, he has done well - but I am pleased that Ronaldo (the real one) still holds that record of 15 goals - he was a genuine class act and world superstar, i'd feel somewhat gutted if klose equalled or beat that record.

                      Look at the names

                      Ronaldo 15
                      Klose 14
                      gert Muller 14
                      Just Fontaine 13
                      Pele 12

One name stands out on that list, Klose

He's still got this 3rd place play off to beat the record though right? But yeah you're right he does stick out like a sore thumb amongst that lot!

He scored goals for good sides, he clearly is good enough to equal that record, 3 wc's 5 - 5 - 4 goals so far. He is a very good finisher and he scoring record for Germany in general is stunning with 52 in 101 games. I don't see why with those records and that history that he doesn't belong. He is there on merit as an excellent finisher.
