Haha sounds like it was a horrible match. We were stuck in Heathrow airport and Rome airport for something like 14 hours with only 5 hours of flying So I wasn't around the forum to put posts between yours

You would have to have been quick anyway mate . Sounds like a nightmare, flight wise. At least your there now and the worst of the weather is behind you now.

      Todays results are

Wellington Phoenix FC 2 - 1 Adelaide United (Welli's winner was in the 94th min )
Gold Coast United 3 - 0 Melbourne Heart ( Culina a double and Bas Van Den Brink ) A much better performance from our lads.

Good victory for GCU there. Sounds like Adelaide were unlucky. Wellington have always had a habit of coming good later on in games so no suprises they scored late... Looks like Brisbane have the season wrapped up

Here's a bit of news for you dude while you live the life of luxury in the old country.

Sydney FC's recruitment for the Asian Champions League has stepped up a gear with the signing of Finland's top goalscorer Juho Makela.

The 190cm tall striker, who has earned eight caps for Finland, has agreed to a 15-month contract with the Sky Blues and will be available to play his first match for the club against Newcastle Jets on January 3.

"He's a very important part of our plans to rebuild," Sydney vice-chairman Scott Barlow said.

"Juho is the first of four or five signings we will be making. Some, however, may not be on board in time for the start of the Asian Champions League."

Sydney's first game in the ACL is against Korea's Suwon Samsung Bluewings at the Sydney Football Stadium on March 2.

Makela, who has an excellent strike record of of 24 goals in 50 appearances for Finnish champions HJK Helsinki, was in Sydney recently for a week's trial. "His presence will give the coach (Vitezslav Lavicka) different options up front," Barlow said.

While Brisbane Roar, Adelaide United, Gold Coast and Central Coast look certainties for the playoffs, the other two spots are really up for grabs and Sydney, despite their inconsistency, are fortunate to still be in the hunt.

The Sky Blues are four points adrift of sixth-placed Wellington but they will need to improve dramatically.

At least they are likely to be boosted by the return of strikers Alex Brosque and Brazilian Bruno Cazarine for their round 18 clash with leaders Brisbane Roar at the SFS.

Brosque got through training yesterday and is confident of playing. "It's up to the coach now," Brosque said.

"There's no question that last week's performance against Central Coast was unsatisfactory and the players know that," Barlow said.

"If you step back, we had a disappointing start to the season but we've won four and drawn two of our past eight games .

"I am confident that we'll continue to climb and we should have Nicky (Carle) back next week."

Lavicka is not one for making wholesale changes but he could easily sack half-a-dozen players after the 4-0 loss to the Mariners. Sydney were just ripped apart.

Midfielder Stuart Musialik can expect the worst. Lavicka humiliated him by taking him off five minutes before halftime, suggesting he won't be playing against the Roar.

But it's the defence that Lavicka really has to sort out.

It won't be surprising to see Stephan Keller reinstated to the central defence and there must be queries over the two fullbacks Shannon Cole and Sung-Hwan Byun.

Even goalkeeper Ivan Necevski might be looking over his shoulder at Liam Reddy.

I was there. That's all that really matters.

The camera angles make it look even worse but yeah we are having problems getting bums on seats.

Next Sunday arvo's match against CC mariners is a freebie. The whole stadium opened for free. Hope we get a crowd for that one.
