He's not as good as he was four or five years ago but he was pretty effective then.

Of course he was then and still remains an egotistical f*ckwit.
isn't that the point of the thread? he is over-rated as the media here hailed him as an amazing amazing defender when in reality he has never been world class. Just a hard nut and good goalscorer for a cb.

They are very useful but out of Carra and Terry, I'd have Carra being biased Carra in 2005/06 over Terry anyday who is way overrated not world class a term overly used. Franco Baresi = World Class

I've always thought Rio as more of a tidy CB, have one real top season with United that i can remember. Terry i agree is a bully, but thats what part of being a top CB is, intimidation but he is an out and out defender whereas Rio is a bit more cultured although Terry's ground game has improved drastically. IMO he has been performing at a consistent level for years now unlike Rio who even before his injuries (which have set him back) was looking ropey. But different stokes i suppose, happily agree to disgaree

But he was a really effective player. That's what makes for how good a player is. As for media overkill, well, yes, but then they do that with loads of players, especially if they're English, let alone, England captain.

I thought the point of this thread was to list players who aren't as good as their reputations suggest and I was saying he's not any more but I think he was, even though he's always been a million times less classy on the ball than, say, Ferdinand is/was or Hansen was.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I'd rather have had Carragher too but that's because he's a Liverpool boy and I'm biased.

I agree about world class, it's lazy term that's overused. But I think for a while he was one of the most effective central defenders around.

                Baresi.

I was not going to post a reply after Reece's post but I thought bumming was where 2 adults who engaged in rubbing bums together like you do when your standing on the tube in the london underground or in a club at the bar

Apart from the begharat bund maarna references? No.
