Underrated great players

I've yet to read any names that to my mind spring out as under rated other than a few Premier league players.
All the rest were well lauded as modern greats of their times and are still remembered by many today.
I think some of this comes from a severe problem in class distiction, the well argued thread of who was world class and who was just international class.
Many of the players mentioned are not so well known because the only people tend to bang on about are the true greats of their eras. Gullit was a truly fantastic player, but he was some distance of being as good as Maradona was. Di Stefano was an awesome finisher but is not considered in the same class as Puskas. Eusebio gets overlooked because he was not in the same league as Pele.
Stoichkov was my favourite non LFC player as a kid, but he got over looked mostly because he wasn't on in Romario's class. Even when he top scored in USA '94 he's still less remembered than Romario (and Bebeto) because Brazil won the world cup. But he was never under rated. If a kid from a mining town in England knows the class of Stoichkov I'm pretty sure everyone else around the world knew of him,
I see quite a few mentions from the USA 94 world cup and the 94-95 season that followed it. Stoichkov, Baresi, Sammer, Muller, Laudrup all pretty much at their peak then.
Muller and Sammer were part of the great Dortmond team that won the German League that year and also later on conquered Europe, great goal by Lars Ricken v Juve - 96/97 season?
Brian Laudrup probably had his best season for Rangers then, tore teams to shreds. Shame for him that the Scottish league had already started to decline, though Rangers were to later get Gazza as they chased the Euro dream that never came.
Batistuta as well was top scorer for Fiorintina that year and he COULD hit a football. It stayed hit.
btw, i remember all this as I got a video of the best goals from all over Europe for that season. Nayims v Arsenal for Zaragoza was in there, as was a belter of an overhead by Gianluca Vialli. Think the Zola/Asprilla partnership was still at Parma, Del Piero was in his pomp as well and we all thought the likes of Kluivert of Ajax and Fowler of Liverpool would turn out to be modern European greats.
Oh, and a Gkp scored an injury time winner with the last touch of the season to give Casino Salzburg the Austrian title, think the header was from about 18 yards out as well. A bullet.
EDIT: Kepper was Otto Konrad.

I think so yeah, in the sense that he is most remembered for his antics, illnesses and addictions rather than his wonderful talent. Even when football comes into the equation it's all about his tears at Italia 90.Originally posted by IN_RAFA_WE_TRUST View PostGascoigne was underrated?
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Papin definately, star of Sensible Soccer.
Romario and Stoichkov at Barca destroying Man U was something to behold.
Rivaldo was a sublime player, skinny, weird looking ****er who looked slow as ****. Horrific cheat, though.
Robbie definately doesn't get the recognition by non LFC fans. Though Gooners think the same of Ian Wright.
