Man City to pay £25.6m for Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko.

Sky Sports sources understand Manchester City are in 'advanced talks' to sign Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko.

The Bosnia international has been a target for a clutch of leading European clubs and has been linked with the likes of AC Milan and Juventus in the past.

He stayed at Wolfsburg over the summer after interested clubs failed to meet a clause in his contract to buy him at the end of last season.

However, the 24-year-old could now be on the move when the January transfer window opens amid reports City have stepped up their bid to capture Dzeko.

City boss Roberto Mancini recently confirmed his interest in Dzeko and is now trying to add the prolific forward to his squad.

Emmanuel Adebayor and Roque Santa Cruz have both been tipped to leave Eastlands in the New Year and that would help to pave the way for Dzeko's arrival.

Reports claim that City are ready to pay 30million Euros (£25.6m) immediately for Dzeko and a further 5m Euros (£4.3m) if the club qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
A deal for Dzeko would certainly boost City's hopes of reaching Europe's elite club competition and also give their Premier League title ambitions a further shot in the arm.

A 4-0 thrashing of Aston Villa on Tuesday saw City move level on points with local rivals United at the top of the table, with another big-name signing -
    Mario Balotelli - scoring a hat-trick.

    I'd pay that for him.

They're looking good for the CL so he will effectively cost them 30mil
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Gutted, i really wanted us to go for him.

I have to accept we're a mid table club now with a mid table manager with mid table expetations and mid table transfer targets.
              We come not to play.

Not sure the 1st two will be around after the summer. Both homesick so question marks for sure

Not seen the fella play. Is he worth the money? What type of player is he? lone frontman or will he be able to form a partnership with Tevez or Mad Mario?

Looking at it from our point of view i guess there's less chance of Torres going to Citeh in the summer.

Lot of people still think we can compete with likes of City/Chelsea/United etc for these top players, living in a dream world. Some LFC fans think that because we have a rich history and won loads of trophies back in the day that makes us able to challenge the likes of these big clubs for top players when the reality is that we don't stand a hope in hell of signing world class players, especially if any other of the big boys come into the mix.

Sure we are 3 points off the relegation zone FFS, imagine us going in for a top player along with several other of the big boys, what exactly do we say to entice him here? 'Oh we used to win trophies & maybe just maybe we might get back to that stage in a few years'. Stoke/Blackpool/Bolton/Sunderland/Blackburn/Everton are all above us, can anyone world class target take us seriously?

I see us signing some effective/decent players in January, and we better hope that we have a good league finish come the summer, so potential targets will actually see us as a club that can challenge and worth while going to.

****ing depressing stuff but thats the reality of the situation

Abramovich has stopped the spending and the mancs havent got the cash.

So we cant compete with City. We can certainly compete with Chelsea and United, money-wise.

And whatever you may think, no matter how much you devalue our brand, LFC is still one of the world's most prestigious footballing names and brands out there. Not sure why you devalue this, but most people know better.

This **** doesn't float anymore. not devaluing it just being realistic, you can only live on your past for so long, and we as LFC supporters do that alot if we are honest.

We need to be picking out players that the big named clubs aren't in for. The scouts really need to earn their crust. Seriously if you were a top footballer, would you want to come to Liverpool who will be lucky to be in the Europa League next year, have a ****e manager and want away players? Common FFS.

We are in a bad situation, Hodgson at the helm makes it a very bad situation. Short of us pulling something out of the bag, which i pray we can, but in January i don't see us a realistic destination for a world class player as such, decent and effective maybe, which i'll be happy with. In the summer with a good league finish we might be in a better position and hopefully with a new man in as well might be wee bit more enticing.

We're a bigger draw than most, but majority of players want CL football which we can't offer. Nor ate we likely to be offering it next season.

This is key for me, big players want to be playing at the highest level, we can not offer that, at the moment no where near that. And all the prestige and past glories don't change the present situation, which is a dire one. Add Roy Hodgson and unhappy players into that mix and you have an even bigger problem.
