Well done to the lad, deserves a regular starting place
but we have to be a bit careful with him, remember Insua last season when he played too many games, it was a step too far.

He should keep his place in the starting XI. He deserves it. Johnson will just have to wait for his chance.

If someone offered us £15m+ for Johnson, sell him. Kelly is good enough.

The lad hasnt even played 20 first team games yet. Steady on. He looks good, but not enough yet to gamble the entire RB position on him and him alone.

Whatever happened to 2 players for each position?

I thought he was outstanding today, both defensively and going forward, he deserves to keep him place.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Nah, we don't want to have another Insua situation where he's over played has a couple of dodgy games and has a confidence problem.

Also we need healthy competition for him and Johnson

The Insua problem was more that he couldn't defend. Kelly does not appear to have the same problem.

Insua lacked pace to get him out of bad positions.

How exactly? What talents of Carragher have been supressed that could be unlocked with Kenny as manager?

Its a very good point. We don't want to heap all that expectation and reliance on a young player like what happened to Insua. He needs to be given time to come through and make the position his own, be it centrally or at RB.

Kelly is a great prospect; he made a superb CL full debut against Lyon, yet has had some less than impressive games along the way, but on the today's evidence he's finding his way up again. As has been said, this is only possible if he has time out of the limelight to regroup.

Great idea. That would leave us with one right-back, a fairly inexperienced one at that.

I thought he had a good game today and showed great promise (as he has most times he has played). However, i thought his final ball/crossing was abysmal when he got into promising positions but tbf it's normally much better than that.

Also Utd got most of their attacking joy down the left so to say he was outstanding defensively is stretching it a bit imo. Aurelio, for example, kept Nani much quieter than Kelly kept Giggs and had an overall better game.

Too early for him to be ahead of Johnson in the pecking order, especially for home games, but it's great that we've got such a fantastic prospect and competition for places. As many people have observed I think we'll see him at Centre back eventually.

Majority of the attacks that came down the right Kelly stopped them. They focused on the left because they got more joy over there. Every time Kelly plays he plays good. He rarely screws up. Compare him to Johnson who has had more experience yet also has far more mistakes during games. If you were to tally up all the games johnson has had you would find almost all of them people on here are frustrated or upset. Compare to Kelly where its always praise. He's good enough now and hopefully Dalglish has noticed this and keeps him there where he belongs.

I would eventually like to see Kelly given a game at CB, his original position, alongside Agger could be the makings of a great partnership.
