I'm not at all sure how he's been sold for that price now..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

The perception back then was that we overpaid for him due to the fact he was English. He barely used to reach double figures in goals for Leicester.Originally posted by rudedog View PostIts very difficult to say what the 2000 version of Heskey would be worth in todays market as our perceptions of him now are clouded by how he's turned out.
Would a player of Darren Bents level have been sold for £24m 10 years ago? I very much doubt it.
Regardless of the above, my main issue was with the comparison between Kelly and Wright - I think Kelly has been much better than Wright ever was.
Wright looked like a very good player when he first started playing for us, although he didn't play very much for us. He was quick, strong and was a very strong tackler. **** knows what happened to him!My kebab comes with chilli sauce

I agree. But not going to hold it against the kid, it's clear that for youngsters to develop, they need to play - and they WILL make mistakes along the way.Originally posted by saj View PostI thought he was poor tonight. Had Glen Johnson made some of the mistakes that Kelly had made today, he'd be getting slaughtered.
And there were times he should have been pushing on but he was so far behind the defensive midfielders, they had nobody to pass to on the right when they got the ball
Still right behind the lad. Cracking prospect.

Last night was not one of his better performances but he continues to look **** hot going forward. He gives us great service on the overlap on the right and his deliveries have been surprisingly good. The point about Skrtel inside him is a good one, he would make any player nervous.
I have notices the last 2 games he has developed a tendency under pressure to force the ball back into dangerous areas in the middle whether by foot or particularly his head.
Someone will coach that out of him sharpish.
I wonder how Glen is feeling pushed to the right? Although I think he has done well going forward and in defence.

What a sack of ****e; how exactly does this supposed nervousness manifest itself? You mean the incident where Kelly had an opportunity to clear the ball yet elected to try and control the ball and mis-controlled it, handing possession straight to a Fulham player? And he did that because Skrtel makes him nervous? Does it make him give possession away and mistime tackles?
Kelly is a good prospect but yesterday's game exposed the fact that he is nowhere near as good an attacking fullback as Johnson. In terms of beating a man, Kelly simply relies on pushing the ball forward and trying to outpace his opponent.

It is a bit of a joke. Skrtel makes players nervous - what a load of bollocks. When Johnson makes mistakes, no one blames Skrtel for making him nervous
Agree with the going forward bit too. Also, he is very slow off the mark which is not good if you're playing full back. When he was square on with the opponents yesterday (mainly Andy Johnson), it was frightening how easy they got past him. At one point, Andy Johnson almost walked past him. But he is youg and should hopefully get better. Maybe he needs to take some beta blockers too to calm him his nerves because obviously Skrtel is hindering his career/My kebab comes with chilli sauce

Appraently Skrtel caused Djimi Traore to do what he did, attempt a Cruyff turn on the goal line and subsequently score an own goal against Burnley, back in 2005. That's how bad Skrtel is/was - he wasn't even at the clubOriginally posted by Baracus View PostSkrtel makes everyone Nervous. He is everyone's Mum

Didn't someone put a bet on him playing for England befre he's 21?

Kelly on Capello radar
Liverpool defender Martin Kelly is on England manager Fabio Capello's radar.
Capello sees our 20-year-old Academy graduate as a potential international star of the future.
Kelly has made 18 appearances so far in 2010-11 and has started each of Kenny Dalglish's five games in charge.
Dalglish described the versatile defender as 'like a new signing' this week - and praise from his club boss has now been followed by recognition from the man currently in charge of the Three Lions.
"Kelly is a good right back," said Capello. "But he is very young. He is an interesting player for England for the future."
Kelly, who missed almost two years of his development due to a back problem, can play across the back four.
His senior debut came as a substitute in a Champions League clash with PSV on December 9, 2008.
Three months later the Whiston-born star was loaned to Huddersfield Town, where he featured seven times, scored a first professional goal against Walsall and earned high praise from assistant boss Terry McDermott.
After returning to Melwood ahead of the 2009-10 season, Kelly was handed his first start for Liverpool in the Champions League group stage encounter with Lyon at Anfield on October 20 before injuries disrupted his season.
He returned to fitness for the start of 2010-11 and found himself the subject of an England U21 call. Kelly rewarded gaffer Stuart Pearce with a headed goal on his debut against Uzbekistan.

Although I didn’t make that particular point I did say last week that I think Johnson looks a lot more comfortable with Agger on his inside. I felt similar about Insua, he didn’t seem to get exposed as much when he had Agger covering and his calming influence did seem to help him.Originally posted by saj View Post

Maybe the players should wear tinfoil hats to repel Skrtel's dark and mysterious 'nervous alphawaves'Originally posted by saj View Post

Johnson has played the vast majority of his games at right back; guess who has been next to Johnson for the vast majority of that time at right centre back, and covers for the right back when he (the right back) moves forward? Yes, you're right, it's J. Carragher Esq.Originally posted by RedReet View PostAlthough I didn’t make that particular point I did say last week that I think Johnson looks a lot more comfortable with Agger on his inside.
