i suspect that it is because it is a one year deal that he is hesitant. There would be a big difference going on a free transfer when you are 31 as opposed to when you are 32. I think Johnson probably thinks he can get a 3 year deal elsewhere. He is likely to have offers from somewhere like QPR or West Ham. He could possibly get up to a 3 year deal from either of those teams and because he is on a free transfer, then help himself to a signing on fee as well.....

I think from LFCs perspective though, it might be worth offering him a longer deal that is based on performance related incentives - perhaps a 2 year deal and if he plays 25 league games he automatically gets another season. We should especially do this if BR feels that one of Manquillo, Flanagan or Wisdom can be a long term mainstay right back for LFC but is not quite ready yet - with the objective being a phased handover over the next 18 months at which point GJ would become the back-up. It is great to see that we have good young players available but if you look at recent history of successful teams, they always have experienced players as well. If GJ leaves, then that is another one of them that we lose...

The guy from Anfield Wrap was on the radio this morning and made a good point - we could let GJ leave because of recent dipped performances, but we could spend more money replacing him and end up with a player that is not as good. If BR feels that he can get another 2 seasons or so out of him, then we should make a bigger effort to keep him.

Don't think it is that simple to be honest. If Brendan Rodgers thinks that Andre Wisdom can also be an integral part of the squad then you are probably right though.....

1 year for 120k per week is unwarranted and personally I'd let him walk if he is looking for anything remotely close but longer than 1 year contract.
