Refusing to play though, just isnt the done thing. Pure selfish cuntery.

No excuse, but with the state the club was in, the fact that they had also just callously sacked Rafa showing no loyalty at all, then if you believe that he had a gentleman’s agreement to be allowed to leave that summer, then Barca come knocking, I’d be tempted to take matters into my own hands rather than trusting Purslow et al.

Yes he was a very good player for us, and I would like he back, but it's never going to happen I can't see him returning to England given that his family were unhappy here.

He's a mercenary of the highest order and although we miss him, I wouldn't take him back. Much rather sign Lassana Diarra or someone else.

This is what I hate about modern football. Player gets the hump, wants to move, so instead of playing til his move comes about they sometimes say "i refuse to play for you". Pienaar did the same before the derby.

In any other job, aside perhaps from anyone under the RMT, if we told our bosses we didnt want to work for them, they'd show us the door. No golden contract to go to and no compensation.

Totally agree. The situation is always entirely of their own making, such as deciding to have a kid that lives in another country. Bunch of spoiled ****s.

Take him back in a heartbeat. This is sport lost its morals a long time ago, so I would have no problem with seeing him back at Anfield. In fact, I think he would be ideal in this King Kenny's team.

Hadn't he already held on for at least 12 maybe 18 months of telling the club he wanted out? He stayed after Xabi left, i'm sure on the understanding that he could go next year, and then we started trying to keep him, at which point he raised the stakes?

Sorry, but when he signed that contract, he committed himself for the duration of the deal. If the club agreed to let him go in the summer of 2010, that's fine - obviously though, this would be subject to receiving an acceptable offer. He must know that.

And the City game was 3 full days before the transfer window was due to shut - so why couldnt he have played in it, and still got his move?

His refusal to play was unacceptable, unprofessional and simply not the done thing, on any level whatsoever.
