The striker completed a £35million move to Liverpool on a five-and-a-half year deal tonight.

Newcastle have insisted they only allowed him to go because he handed in a transfer request.

But in a text to Newcastle ToonTalk fanzine editor Steve Wraith, which emerged tonight on Facebook, Carroll said: “I’m gutted to be leaving my home town club; I was told to go.

“I didn’t want to leave that’s why I signed a five year deal. I was pushed out of the door.”
